また、充電時には、次の式に示すように前記正極において酸化リチウムまたは過酸化リチウムからリチウムイオンと酸素イオンとが生成し、生成したリチウムイオンは前記電解質層を透過して負極に移動する。また、生成した酸素イオンは、そのままで、又は酸化されることにより生成した酸素分子として、前記酸素貯蔵材料に吸蔵又は吸着される。そして、負極では前記リチウムイオンが還元されて、金属リチウムとして析出する。
Li2O2 → 2Li+ + 2O2-
(負極) 4Li+ +4e- → 4Li
ここで、本発明の金属酸素電池における酸素貯蔵材料は、イットリウム塩とマンガン塩と有機酸とを粉砕混合し、一次焼成した後、得られた一次焼成物にジルコニウム塩を添加して二次焼成することにより得られる。前記二次焼成の際、YMnO3粒子の表面の一部がZrO2粒子により被覆されると、該ZrO2粒子は難焼結性であって且つYMnO3粒子よりも粒子径が小さいので、YMnO3粒子同士の過度の焼結が抑制される。この結果、得られたYMnO3とZrO2とからなる複合金属酸化物を含む前記酸素貯蔵材料は、ジルコニウム塩を添加しないで製造したYMnO3のみからなる酸素貯蔵材料に比較して、粒子径が小さくなると共に、比表面積が大きくなる。
また、本発明の金属酸素電池において、前記正極、前記負極及び前記電解質層は密封ケース内に配設されている。本発明の金属酸素電池では、前記酸素貯蔵材料が化学的に酸素を吸蔵、放出し、又は物理的に吸着、脱着することができるので、前記正極を大気に開放したり、脆弱な光透過部を形成することなく、前記密封ケース内に配設された前記正極で活物質としての酸素を得ることができる。従って、本発明の金属酸素電池では、大気中の水分又は二酸化炭素による劣化や、光透過部の損傷による電解液漏出を避けることができる。
(正極) O2 + 4e- → 2O2-
4Li+ + 2O2- → 2Li2O
2Li+ + 2O2- → Li2O2
一方、充電時には次の式に示すように、正極2において、酸化リチウム又は過酸化リチウムからリチウムイオンと酸素イオンとが生成する。生成したリチウムイオンは負極3に移動し、負極3で還元されることにより金属リチウムとして析出する。
Li2O2 → 2Li+ + 2O2-
(負極) 4Li+ +4e- → 4Li
本実施形態の金属酸素電池1において、上述したように、前記酸素貯蔵材料は、ジルコニウム塩を添加していないYMnO3のみからなる酸素貯蔵材料に比較して、比表面積が大きくなる。従って、前記酸素貯蔵材料は、その表面に吸着、脱着できる酸素量が増加し、またリチウムイオンが酸素イオンと反応する反応界面が増加する。この結果、本実施形態の金属酸素電池1では、放電過電圧を低下させることができる。
本実施例では、まず、硝酸イットリウム5水和物と、硝酸マンガン6水和物と、リンゴ酸とを、1:1:6のモル比となるようにして、粉砕混合し、複合金属酸化物材料の混合物を得た。次に、得られた複合金属酸化物材料の混合物を250℃の温度で30分間反応させた後、さらに、300℃の温度で30分間、350℃の温度で1時間反応させて一次焼成を行った。
本実施例では、前記一次焼成物の全量の5質量%となるように硝酸ジルコニウム5水和物を添加したことを除き、実施例1と全く同一にして、金属酸素電池1を得た。
本実施例では、前記一次焼成物の全量の1質量%となるように硝酸ジルコニウム5水和物を添加したことを除き、実施例1と全く同一にして、金属酸素電池1を得た。
本比較例では、硝酸ジルコニウム5水和物を全く用いなかった以外は、実施例1と全く同一にして金属酸素電池1を得た。
本比較例では、前記一次焼成物の全量の30質量%となるように硝酸ジルコニウム5水和物を添加したことを除き、実施例1と全く同一にして、金属酸素電池1を得た。
Claims (5)
- 酸素を活物質とする正極と、金属リチウムを活物質とする負極と、該正極と負極とに挟持された電解質層とを備える金属酸素電池において、
前記正極、前記負極及び前記電解質層は密封ケース内に配設されており、
前記正極は、イットリウム塩とマンガン塩と有機酸とを粉砕混合し、一次焼成した後、得られた一次焼成物に対し、その全量の1〜20質量%の範囲でジルコニウム塩を添加して二次焼成することにより得られるYMnO3とZrO2とからなる複合金属酸化物を酸素貯蔵材料として含むことを特徴とする金属酸素電池。 - 請求項1記載の金属酸素電池において、前記イットリウム塩はイットリウムの硝酸塩であることを特徴とする金属酸素電池。
- 請求項1又は請求項2記載の金属酸素電池において、前記マンガン塩はマンガンの硝酸塩であることを特徴とする金属酸素電池。
- 請求項1〜請求項3のいずれか1項記載の金属酸素電池において、前記ジルコニウム塩はジルコニウムの硝酸塩であることを特徴とする金属酸素電池。
- 請求項1〜請求項4のいずれか1項記載の金属酸素電池において、前記有機酸はリンゴ酸であることを特徴とする金属酸素電池。
