Description
主材料
本発明によれば、主材料は、好ましくは、無機水和金属酸化物(inorganic hydrated metal oxides)、アモルファス金属珪酸塩、ゼオライト及びその混合物、等から選択することができる。より好適には、無機水和酸化チタンの酸化物または珪酸塩、無機水和錫の酸化物または珪酸塩、及びこれらの混合物から選択される。非常に好ましくは、チタン珪酸塩、錫珪酸塩及びこれらの混合物から選択される。
支持材料
支持材料は、好適には種々の広範囲の多孔性または非多孔性材質から選択することができ、また、処理されるメディア内の望ましからざる成分の除去に対して更なる活性を与えるように選択することもできる。好適な支持材料の例としては、炭素、特に粒状活性炭、ガラスビードあるいはバブル(glass beads or bubbles)、多孔性または非多孔性の火山性メディア、プラスチックビードまたはペレット、プラスチックファイバー、木繊維、炭素ファイバー、セラミックメディア、加熱または非加熱クレイ、珪藻土、金属パーティクル、フェロマグネチック材料、シリカゲル、マグテチックステンレススティール、有機ファイバー、セルロースファイバー、アクリルファイバー、シリコンカーバイドその他が挙げられる。特に好適な支持材料としては、活性炭、特に粒状の活性炭が挙げられる。
バインダ材料
バインダ材料は、結晶質熱可塑性ポリマー、熱可塑性ポリマー、結晶質ポリマー及びその混合物、好適にはポリオレフィン、ポリアミド及びその混合物のいずれであってもよい。好適バインダ材料の特定例としては、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、エチレンビニルアセテート及びその混合物。
プロセス
以下、本発明に係る複合パティキュレート材料を調製するプロセスを説明する。パティキュレート材料の製造においては、本発明では、主材料と支持材料とバインダ材料とを、実質的に均質な混合物が得られるように、選択された量で混合する。その後、この混合物を加熱して軟化させ、バインダ材料の粒子の形状がくずれだして、主材料と支持材料との隣接するすべての粒子が実質的に接着するに十分な粘度となるようにする。その後、混合物を冷却するか、あるいは室温に戻るのを許容する、或いは、室温に戻るまで放置することで、主材料と支持材料との間におけるバインダ材料による接着が、実質的に永久的なものとなるようにする。これにより、摩耗に対して特に耐性が高い複合パティキュレート材料を提供し、特に、従来生じていた、主材料の損失が起こりにくい複合パティキュレート材料を提供する。

Claims (9)
- 水溶液から重金属を除去するための複合パティキュレート材料であって、
無機水和金属酸化物、アモルファス金属珪酸塩、ゼオライト、及びこれらの任意混合物のいずれかから選択される主材料粒子と、
支持材料粒子と、
前記主材料および前記支持材料の軟化温度よりも低い軟化温度を有するとともに、前記主材料と前記支持材料とに接着されて前記主材料を前記支持材料に結合させるバインダ材と、を有し、
前記主材料粒子は、1〜60マイクロメーターの直径を有し、前記支持材料粒子は、前記主材料粒子よりも大きい2,500マイクロメーター以下の直径を有し、かつ、前記バインダ材は、1〜30マイクロメーターの直径を有しており、
前記複合パティキュレート材料は、前記主材料と、前記支持材料と、前記バインダ材との混合物を、前記バインダ材が5〜25重量%の比率で含まれるように混合し、前記バインダ材の軟化温度以上でかつ前記主材料の軟化温度および前記支持材料の軟化温度よりも低い温度に加熱し、次いで、加熱した前記混合物を冷却しながら攪拌し続けることにより、前記バインダ材が固化する間、前記混合物を粒状の状態に維持しながら前記主材料を前記支持材料に接着させることによって形成され、それにより、前記複合パティキュレート材料は、前記主材料粒子と前記支持材料粒子とが結合された、摩耗に対する耐性を有する非連続的な粒子をなす複合パティキュレート材料。 - 前記主材料は、無機水和チタン酸化物、無機水和錫酸化物、及びこれらの混合物のいずれかから選択されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
- 前記主材料は、チタン珪酸塩を含むことを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
- 前記支持材料は、粒状活性炭を含むことを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
- 前記主材料と前記支持材料の少なくとも一方は、脱着ポア体積が1グラムあたり0.03〜0.25立方センチメートルであるセラミックイオン交換媒質であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
- 前記バインダ材は、結晶質熱可塑性ポリマー、熱可塑性ポリマー、結晶質ポリマー及びこれらの任意混合物のいずれかから選択されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
- 前記バインダ材は、ポリオレフィン、ポリアミド及びこれらの任意混合物のいずれかから選択されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
- 前記バインダ材は、ポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、エチレンビニルアセテート及びこれらの任意混合物のうちから選択されるバインダ材から選択されることを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
- 前記複合材料は、スプレープロセスにより主材料と支持材料とがバインダなしで結合されたものと比較して、耐摩耗性が高いことを特徴とする請求項1記載の複合パティキュレート材料。
