これは、近接する同じ発光色の発光部から放射する光の強さが正面方向の半分となる光が、混ざり合うのに最低限必要な幅であり、この幅以上とすることで光混合領域は機能することになる。

の関係を満たす。これは、第1の光混合領域11と第2の光混合領域12から出射する光の量はほぼ同じであり、光出射領域13から出射する光の量が第1の光混合領域11と第2の光混合領域12から出射する光の量と同等かそれよりも多いことを示す。
Claims (11)
- 導光体と、この導光体における2つの対向する端面のそれぞれに近接して配置した複数の発光部を線状又は帯状に並べた第1の光源群及び第2の光源群を備えた照明装置において、
前記導光体は、第1の光源群に近接した第1の光混合領域と、第2の光源群に近接した第2の光混合領域と、第1の光混合領域と第2の光混合領域との間の光出射領域とを有し、
前記第1の光混合領域と第2の光混合領域では、近接する光源群を構成する複数の発光部から入射した光を互いに混じり合わせ、離れた光源群から入射して互いに混じり合った光を出射させ、
前記光出射領域では、互いに混じり合った光の一部を通過させ、残りの光を出射させ、
前記第1の光源群から出射して導光体に入射した光のうち、第1の光混合領域、光出射領域及び第2の光混合領域から導光体の表面側に出射する光の導光体表面における単位面積あたりの出射光量をそれぞれL011、L01、L012とし、
前記第2の光源群から出射して導光体に入射した光のうち、第1の光混合領域、光出射領域及び第2の光混合領域から導光体の表面側に出射する光の導光体表面における単位面積あたりの出射光量をそれぞれL021、L02、L022とすると、
L011<L01<L012、
L021>L02>L022、
L011<L021、
L012>L022
の関係を満たし、
前記第1の光混合領域と第2の光混合領域は、導光体の端面から中心方向に向かってその厚みが厚くなるテーパー状の形状をなし、
前記光出射領域は、テーパー状の形状と連続した平板状の形状をなし、
前記導光体の表面側に光路変換手段を備え
前記光路変換手段は、その表面に多数のプリズム面を有して、その稜線が複数の発光部の配列方向(長手方向)と平行になる透明シートであり、
L01+L02がL011+L021およびL012+L022より1〜10%大きいことを特徴とする照明装置。 - 前記第1の光混合領域は、第1の光源群を構成する複数の発光部から出射して導光体に入射する光に対しては、導光体の表面側からはほとんど出射することなく、互いに混じり合いながら導波するように構成され、第2の光源群を構成する複数の発光部から出射して導光体に入射する光については、導光体の表面側から出射するように構成され、
前記第2の光混合領域は、第2の光源群を構成する複数の発光部から出射して導光体に入射する光に対しては、導光体の表面側からはほとんど出射することなく、互いに混じり合いながら導波するように構成され、第1の光源群を構成する複数の発光部から出射して導光体に入射する光については、導光体の表面側から出射するように構成され、
前記光出射領域は、第1の光源群及び第2の光源群を構成する複数の発光部から出射して導光体に入射する光の一部が導光体を導波しながら通過し、その他の光は導光体の表面側から出射するように構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置。 - 前記第1の光源群及び前記第2の光源群に対して、1つの放熱部材が接続され、
前記第1の光混合領域および前記第2の光混合領域の裏面に相当する部分では、前記第1の光源群および前記第2の光源群に近いところほど前記放熱部材を厚くし、
前記光出射領域13の裏面に相当する部分では前記放熱部材を薄くすることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の証明装置。 - 前記複数の発光部の配列ピッチをp、発光部から放射し導光体に入射する際の光の半値角をθ1、この光が導光体に入射して導光体内を進む角度をθ2、導光体と発光部との間の屈折率をn1、導光体の屈折率をn2としたとき、
前記光混合領域における導光体の端面からの幅Lが、
L=p/2tanθ2=p/2tan(sin-1(n1/n2・sinθ1))
で表される値以上であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置。 - 前記第1の光混合領域と第2の光混合領域では、その表面粗さRaが38nm以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置。
- 前記複数の発光部が発光色の異なる発光ダイオードであることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置。
- 前記導光体の端面には、複数の円弧状の凹み部分を有し、これら凹み部分と1対1に対応して光源群を構成する複数の発光部が配置され、
前記複数の円弧状の凹み部分が、前記第1の光混合領域と第2の光混合領域における前記導光体の厚みが小さい部分に形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置。 - 前記凹み部分をなす円弧の中心位置に、光源群を構成する複数の発光部を配置することを特徴とする請求項7に記載の照明装置。
- 前記導光体は、その2つの端面から等距離となる中心線に対して対称で前記2つのテーパー状の領域と、これらテーパー状の領域間に、これらの領域と連続する前記平板状の領域とを有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置。
- 前記テーパー状の領域の裏面側に、光源群で発生する熱を放熱するための放熱手段を配置し、
前記第1の光混合領域と第2の光混合領域に相当する部分では、光源群に近いところほど前記方熱手段を厚くし、
前記光出射領域の裏面に相当する部分では、前記放熱手段を薄くし、
前記放熱手段を筐体の一部として兼用することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の照明装置。 - 光の透過光量を調節することで画像を表示する表示パネルと、請求項1に記載の照明装置とから構成される表示装置において、
前記表示パネルの表示面の長辺方向と複数の発光部の配列方向(長手方向)を一致させ、
前記光路変換手段を形成するプリズムの稜線の長手方向を複数の発光部の配列方向(長手方向)と略一致させることを特徴とする表示装置。
