Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a voltage nonlinear element having a large voltage nonlinear index in a low current region by causing a finely pulverized semiconductor substance which is covered with a thin insulating coating containing MnO2 and Pr6O11 to be hardened with an insulating bonding agent and then by causing its insulating coating to be equipped with electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Finely particulate ZnO is burnt and ground and a mixture of MnO2 and Pr6O11 amounting to about 0.05-10mol% is added to the above burnt and ground ZnO. And it is treated with heat in the air and an insulating coating consisting of the above oxides is formed at the surface of finely powdered ZnO. Then a polyimide resin which is diluted by solvent is added and mixed as an insulating bonding agent and it becomes paint-like. This coating is applied to a glass substrate 3 where an indium-tin oxide (ITO) electrode 1 is mounted and the glass substrate 4 where the same ITO electrode 2 is mounted is pleced on the above glass substrate, and then they are hardened in the air and a nonlinear element 5 is made up between electrodes 1 and 2. This approach makes a distance between electrodes narrow and a contact area between semiconductor substances small and also makes it possible to obtain an element where its nonlinear index in a low current region is large and parallel electrostatic capacity is small.
