Description
本発明の第1の実施形態として、1フレーム周期を2フィールドに分割した場合を述べる。駆動回路は、図1に示すようにメモリ106及びデータ電圧を補正するためのデータ変換器105を有する。データ変換器105は、前フレームと現フレームでのデータの比較を行い、比較結果に基づいてメモリ106のデータ変換テーブル上の補正値を読み出し、現フレームのフィールドのデータに加算することで、補償後階調データを得る。補償後階調データは、タイミングコントローラ104からデータドライバ103を経て画素に印加されるようになっている。また、この変換は1フレーム中の2フィールドのデータに対して行われる。
図6(A)は本発明の第2の実施形態による第1フィールドFD1及び第2フィールドFD2の階調を示す図であり、図6(B)は図6(A)の低階調領域の拡大図である。第1フィールドFD1及び第2フィールドFD2においてそれぞれ8ビット階調の精度でグレー表示する機能を持っており、両者の組合せで10ビット精度の階調のグレー表示を実現するものである。

本発明の第3の実施形態は、メモリ106に格納した前フレームのフレーム階調データを、現在のフレームの階調データと比較し、両者に差があった場合には、最初のフィールドにのみ、フィールド階調を変化させる機能を持つ。

図12(A)は本発明の第4の実施形態によるバックライト1201及び液晶パネル1202の接続例を示す図であり、図12(B)はバックライト1201及び液晶パネル1202の断面図である。バックライト1201は、液晶パネル1202に光を照射する。液晶パネル1202は、バックライト1201の光の透過率を制御し、階調表現する。

Claims (2)
- 画素を選択するための複数のゲートライン及び画素データを供給するための複数のデータラインを含む液晶パネルと、
1フレームを2フィールドに分割し、フレームデータをフィールドデータに変換し、前記データラインに前記フィールドデータを供給するデータドライバとを有し、
前記分割された2フィールドはそれぞれ複数ビット階調の精度でグレー表示する機能を持っており、前記分割された2フィールドの組合せで複数ビット精度の階調のグレー表示を実現し、
前記2フィールドのうちの高輝度側のフィールドの時間は低輝度側のフィールドの時間より短い液晶表示装置。 - フレーム時間をT、高輝度側のフィールドの時間をL、黒表示から白表示に変えたときの最終到達輝度の10%から90%までの応答時間をτ1、白表示から黒表示に変えたときの最終到達輝度の10%から90%までの応答時間をτ2とすると、以下の不等式を満たすようにフィールド時間比が設定される請求項1記載の液晶表示装置。
