Description
断面の走査型電子顕微鏡(SEM)写真を撮り、それを市販の画像解析ソフト(メディアサイバネティクス社製イメージプロプラス(商品名))を用いることにより求めた。具体的には、SEM画像を封止部の中心軸と平行な直線に沿って一定間隔毎に、所定の長さに渡ってスキャンし、スキャンした長さと空隙部分の長さの比から求めた。なお、SEM写真の倍率は鮮明な画像が得られるような倍率であればよく、そのような倍率から任意の倍率を選択すればよい。本明細書の実施例等においては、30倍の倍率の画像を用いた。スキャンは、両端部の凹凸部を除く封止部の全長に渡って0.01mm間隔毎に、行った。また、「封止部の中心軸近傍の断面開口率」は、封止部の中心軸近傍における断面開口率の測定値の内の最小値とした。図3は、画像解析に用いた封止部のSEM写真の例である。図4は、封止部の断面開口率の測定例を示すグラフであり、横軸のX(mm)は、図5に示すような断面における隔壁7と封止部11との接触部の一端から接触部の他端へと向かう方向上の位置を示している。
断面のSEM写真を撮り、それを市販の画像解析ソフト(メディアサイバネティクス社製イメージプロプラス(商品名))を用いることにより求めた。なお、この方法では、水銀圧入法とほぼ同一の結果が得られることを確認した。なお、SEM写真の倍率は鮮明な画像が得られるような倍率であればよく、そのような倍率から任意の倍率を選択すればよい。本明細書の実施例等においては、30倍の倍率の画像を用いた。
Claims (7)
- 多孔質の隔壁により仕切られた軸方向に貫通する複数のセルを有し、所定のセルの一方の端部が当該セル内に充填された封止材からなる封止部により封止され、残余のセルについては前記所定のセルとは反対側の他方の端部が同様に封止部により封止されたセラミックハニカム構造体であって、
前記封止部の隔壁近傍の断面開口率(当該断面開口率における「開口」は、前記封止部に存在する気孔によって形成されたものに限る)が、前記封止部の中心軸近傍の断面開口率(当該断面開口率における「開口」は、前記封止部に存在する気孔によって形成されたものに限る)よりも小さく、かつ、その差が10%以上であり、更に、前記封止部の中心軸近傍の断面開口率が95%以下であるセラミックハニカム構造体(ここで、封止部の中心軸近傍とは、セルの軸方向に対し垂直方向に切断した封止部断面において封止部に内接する最大の円の中心を中心とし、当該内接円の直径の1/20の直径を持つ円の内側の部分を言い、封止部の隔壁近傍とは、封止部の外周から前記内接円の中心に向かって、前記内接円の直径の1/20の距離だけ進んだ位置を言う。)。 - 前記封止部の隔壁近傍の断面開口率が70%以下である請求項1に記載のセラミックハニカム構造体。
- 前記封止部と前記隔壁とが部分的に接しておらず、両者間に空隙が存在する請求項1又は2に記載のセラミックハニカム構造体。
- 前記封止部の気孔率が、前記隔壁の気孔率よりも大きい請求項1ないし3の何れか一項に記載のセラミックハニカム構造体。
- 前記隔壁の気孔率が55〜85%である請求項4に記載のセラミックハニカム構造体。
- 前記セラミックハニカム構造体が、コージェライト、SiC、ムライト、アルミニウムチタネート及びSiNからなる群より選ばれた少なくとも1種のセラミックからなるものである請求項1ないし5の何れか一項に記載のセラミックハニカム構造体。
- 内燃機関の排ガス浄化用フィルターに用いられる請求項1ないし6の何れか一項に記載のセラミックハニカム構造体。
