Description
また、圧電アクチュエータが、一対の電極に挟まれた、圧力室から一番遠い圧電層と、流路ユニットに固定された、圧力室に一番近い圧電層とを含む複数の圧電層が積層された積層体であって、一対の電極間に電位差が生じたときに、一対の電極に挟まれた圧電層の圧電横効果に基づくユニモルフ変形によって、圧力室の容積を変化させる場合には、インク滴の吐出特性のばらつきが確実に小さくなることがわかった。

Claims (6)
- 被記録媒体にインクを吐出する複数のインク吐出口に連通した複数の圧力室を含む流路ユニット、及び、前記複数の圧力室の容積をV1とする第1状態と前記圧力室の容積をV1よりも大きいV2とする第2状態とを取り得る圧電アクチュエータを有し、前記被記録媒体に対して相対移動することによって印字を行うインクジェットヘッドと、
前記相対移動において、前記被記録媒体及び前記インクジェットヘッドのいずれか一方が、前記印字の解像度に対応する単位距離だけ移動するのに要する時間である印字周期の間に、前記圧電アクチュエータが前記第1状態から前記第2状態を経て再び前記第1状態に戻る一連の動作を複数回繰り返すことによって1つの前記インク吐出口から複数のインク滴を連続して吐出するように前記圧電アクチュエータに駆動パルス信号を供給する制御手段とを備え、
前記一連の動作における、前記圧電アクチュエータが前記第1状態から前記第2状態に移行し始めた時点から、次に前記第2状態から前記第1状態に移行し始める時点までの時間であって、前記インク吐出口から吐出されるインク滴の吐出速度を最大とする前記時間をALとすると、
前記印字周期において、最初に前記第1状態から前記第2状態に移行し始めた時点から最初に前記第2状態から前記第1状態に移行し始める時点までの時間A、最初に前記第2状態から前記第1状態に移行し始める時点から2回目に前記第1状態から前記第2状態に移行し始める時点までの時間B、及び、2回目に前記第1状態から前記第2状態に移行し始める時点から2回目に前記第2状態から前記第1状態に移行し始める時点までの時間Cが、4.5AL≦A+B+C≦5.4AL、2.60AL≦B≦3.35AL及び0.81AL≦C≦1.14ALの関係を全て満たすように、前記制御手段が前記圧電アクチュエータに前記駆動パルス信号を供給することを特徴とするインクジェットプリンタ。 - 前記時間Cが、0.92AL≦C≦1.03ALの関係を満たすことを特徴とする請求項1に記載のインクジェットプリンタ。
- 前記流路ユニットにおいて、前記複数の圧力室が、互いに交差する2つの方向にマトリックス状に配列されていることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載のインクジェットプリンタ。
- 前記圧電アクチュエータが、圧電層と、前記圧力室に対応して前記圧電層を挟むように形成された一対の電極とにより構成されていることを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載のインクジェットプリンタ。
- 前記圧電アクチュエータは、
前記一対の電極に挟まれた、前記圧力室から一番遠い前記圧電層と、
前記流路ユニットに固定された、前記圧力室に一番近い前記圧電層とを含む複数の前記圧電層が積層された積層体であって、
前記一対の電極間に電位差が生じたときに、前記一対の電極に挟まれた前記圧電層の圧電横効果に基づくユニモルフ変形によって、前記圧力室の容積を変化させることを特徴とする請求項4に記載のインクジェットプリンタ。 - 前記印字周期の間に、前記圧電アクチュエータが前記第1状態から前記第2状態を経て再び前記第1状態に戻る一連の動作を2回だけ繰り返すように、前記制御手段が前記圧電アクチュエータに前記駆動パルス信号を供給することを特徴とする請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載のインクジェットプリンタ。
