Description
本発明は液晶ディスプレイ(LCD)を用いたビデオシステムの分野に係り、特に通常は白であるliquid crystal on siliconイメージャを用いたビデオシステムに係る。
Liquid crystal on silicon(LCOS)は、シリコン基板上に形成された1つの大きな液晶であると考えることができる。シリコンウェーハは微小な板電極の増分的な配列へ分割される。液晶の微小な増分領域は、各微小板及び共通の板によって発生される電界によって影響を受ける。このような各微小板と対応する液晶領域を一緒にしてイメージャのセルと称する。各セルは、個々に制御可能な画素に対応する。共通の板電極は、液晶の反対側に置かれる。各セル、即ち画素は、入力信号が変化されるまで同じ強度で照明されたままであり、従ってサンプル・アンド・ホールドとして作用する。画素は、陰極線管における蛍光体の場合のように崩壊することはない。共通板電極と可変板電極の各組はイメージャを形成する。各色に対して1つのイメージャが設けられ、この場合は、赤、緑、及び青の夫々に対して1つのイメージャが設けられる。
Claims (15)
- 液晶イメージャを駆動するのに使う方法であって、
ビデオ駆動信号をガンマ補正する段階と、
前記ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号の少なくとも一部について隣接する画素間の信号レベルの差を制限する段階とを含む方法。 - 前記ガンマ補正する段階は、赤のガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分と、青のガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分と、緑のガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分とを含む出力を生成する段階を更に含む、請求項1記載の方法。
- 隣接する画素間の信号レベルの差が、前記ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分のうちの少なくとも一つについて制限される、請求項2記載の方法。
- 入力信号を処理して非インタレース・ビデオ信号を与える段階と、
前記非インタレース・ビデオ信号を色空間変換する段階と、
前記色空間変換されたビデオ信号をフレームレート乗算して前記ビデオ駆動信号を与える段階とを、前記ガンマ補正する段階に先立って更に有する、請求項1記載の方法。 - 前記ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分の夫々に対して、隣接する画素間の信号レベルの差についての限界を独立に選択する段階を更に含む、請求項3記載の方法。
- 液晶イメージャを駆動するのに使う装置であって、
ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号を与えるためにビデオ駆動信号をガンマ補正する装置と、
前記ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号について隣接する画素間の信号レベルの差を制限するスルーレート制限器とを含む装置。 - 入力ビデオ信号を、該信号が前記ガンマ補正する装置に入力される前に色空間変換する色空間変換器を更に含む、請求項6記載の装置。
- 前記色空間変換されたビデオ信号をフレームレート乗算することを、フレームレート乗算されたビデオ信号がガンマ補正される前に行う手段を更に含む、請求項7記載の装置。
- 前記ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号が、赤のガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分と、青のガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分と、緑のガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分とを更に含む、請求項8記載の装置。
- 前記ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号成分の夫々に対して、隣接する画素間の信号レベルの差についての限界を独立に選択する手段を更に含む、請求項9記載の装置。
- 前記スルーレート制限器は、前記スルーレート制限器からの連続する出力信号が所定の差の限界値以上は変化しないことを確実とする手段を更に含む、請求項6記載の装置。
- 前記スルーレート制限器は更に、
現在画素についての前記ガンマ補正されたビデオ駆動信号と先行するガンマ補正されたスルーレート制限された出力との間の差分を表わす差分信号を与える代数ユニットと、
前記先行するガンマ補正されたスルーレート制限された出力を格納するラッチと、
前記差分が前記所定の差の限界値を超えるかどうかを判定し、前記差分と前記所定の差の限界値の間で絶対値が小さいほうであるスルーレート制限された差分を出力する少なくとも1つの比較器と、
前記現在画素についての新しい画素値を発生するために、前記少なくとも1つの比較器からの出力を、前記先行するガンマ補正されたスルーレート制限された出力の明るさレベルに加える第2の代数ユニットとを更に含む、請求項11記載の装置。 - 前記少なくとも1つの比較器は、前記差分信号が所定の正の差の限界値よりも大きいかどうかを判定する第1の比較器と、前記差分信号が所定の負の差の限界値よりも負であるかどうかを判定する第2の比較器とを含む、請求項12記載の装置。
- 前記所定の正の差の限界値の絶対値と前記所定の負の差の限界値の絶対値とは等しい、請求項13記載の装置。
- 前記スルーレート制限器は、前記差分信号の最上位ビットを前記第1の比較器及び前記第2の比較器から出力を選択するための制御入力として用いるマルチプレクサを更に含む、請求項12記載の装置。
