Description
(a)映像表示部に表示される画像を、正面方向からは視認可能とする一方、斜め方向からは視認されにくくする狭視野角モード;
(b)映像表示部に表示される画像を、どの方向からでも視認可能とする広視野角モード;および
(c)映像表示部を、どの方向からでも鏡面表示とする鏡モード
のいずれかのモードを切換えるようになっていることが好ましい。
本発明の一実施形態について図1ないし図7に基づいて説明すると以下の通りである。
(b)表示部4のメイン画像を全方位から視認可能とするモード,および
(c)表示部4を鏡面表示とするモード。
次に、本発明の別の実施形態について、図8〜図14に基づいて説明する。本実施形態の説明では、実施の形態1の説明に用いた図1〜図7を適宜参照する。なお、本実施形態では、主に、実施の形態1との相違点について説明し、同様部分の説明は省略する。
(1)評価方法:被験者に評価用ディスプレイを持たせ、画面正面から左右どちらかの方向に、45度の角度から観察した、評価用ディスプレイの情報の判読度を評価した。
(2)評価基準:5段階評価(全て判読できる,殆ど判読できる,殆ど判読できない,全く判読できない,良く分からない)
(3)被験者数:100人(20〜40代の男女)
(3)評価ディスプレイ
表示部(ベースパネル):携帯電話用2.4型QVGA(240×320ピクセル)
スイッチングパネル(液晶層):配向分割(図4参照)された、1mm×1mmの方形パターン
(4)評価パターン:表示部に、以下の『』内の文書を表示する。

Claims (8)
- 画像を表示するための映像表示部と、
上記映像表示部の前面側に配置され、上記映像表示部の各視角方向における視認状態を電気的に切換えるための表示切替部と、
上記表示切替部の前面に配置された第1偏光板と、
上記映像表示部と表示切替部との間に配置された第2偏光板とを備え、
さらに、上記表示切替部の背面側と第2偏光板との間に、反射型偏光板を備えており、
上記表示切替部は、一対の基板間に挟持され、かつ、TNモードの液晶分子が配向分割された液晶層であることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 上記表示切替部は、上記液晶層に印加される電圧に応じて、
(a)映像表示部に表示される画像を、正面方向からは視認可能とする一方、斜め方向からは視認されにくくする狭視野角モード;
(b)映像表示部に表示される画像を、どの方向からでも視認可能とする広視野角モード;および
(c)映像表示部を、どの方向からでも鏡面表示とする鏡モード
のいずれかのモードを切換えるようになっていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 上記(a)〜(c)のいずれかのモードに切換えるための電圧が、0Vに設定されていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 上記広視野角モードに切換えるための電圧が、0Vに設定されていることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の表示装置。
- 上記狭視野角モードに切換えるための電圧が、上記鏡モードに切換えるための電圧よりも、上記広視野角モードに切換えるための電圧に近似するように設定されていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 上記液晶層が、ノーマリーホワイト方式であることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の表示装置。
- 上記映像表示部は、上記鏡モード時には、その映像表示部側から照射される光をオフ状態とするようになっていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の表示装置。
- 請求項1〜7のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置を備えた電子機器。
