ここで、IOLEDは有機電界発光素子OLEDに流れる電流、IDは駆動トランジスタのソースからドレイン方向に流れる電流、VGSは駆動トランジスタMDのゲートとソース間の電圧、VTHは駆動トランジスタMDの閾値電圧、VDDは電源電圧、VDATAはデータ電圧、βは利得係数を各々示す。
第1走査信号scan1がハイであり、第2走査信号scan2がローである発光期間には、第3スイッチングトランジスタMS3がオン状態となり、第1及び第2スイッチングトランジスタMS1、MS2はオフ状態となる。選択期間にキャパシタCに充電された電荷が発光期間の間に維持されるので、選択期間に定められたキャパシタCの第1端子と第2端子間の電圧、すなわち駆動トランジスタMDのゲート及びソース間の電圧が発光期間の間に維持される。駆動トランジスタMDに流れる電流IDは、(2)式で示されたように、ソース及びドレイン間の電圧VGSにより決定されるので、選択期間に駆動トランジスタに流れる出力データ電流IDoutが発光期間にも駆動トランジスタMDに流れるようになる。したがって、有機電界発光素子OLEDに流れる電流IOLEDは、(3)式で示した通りである。
(3)式で示したように、図4に示されたサブピクセルの有機電界発光素子OLEDに流れる電流IOLEDは、出力データ電流IDoutと同一であるから、有機電界発光素子OLEDに流れる電流IOLEDは、駆動トランジスタMDの閾値電圧の影響を受けない。すなわち、上記のサブピクセル回路を使用すれば、駆動トランジスタMDの閾値電圧の影響を受けない。

- 伝達される第1データ電流に対応する画像を表現し、複数のサブピクセルを含む複数の画素と、
前記複数の画素に走査信号を伝達する複数の走査線と、
前記複数の画素に前記第1データ電流を伝達する複数の第1データ線と、
前記複数の走査線に前記走査信号を出力する走査駆動部と、
複数の逆多重化回路を含む逆多重化部と、
複数の第2データ線に第2データ電流を出力するデータ駆動部とを備え、
前記逆多重化回路は、
サンプル信号に応答して、前記第2データ電流をサンプリングし、ホールド信号に応答して、サンプリングされた第2データ電流に対応する電流を前記第1データ線に伝達する複数のサンプル及びホールド回路と、
複数のプレチャージ信号のうちのいずれかに応答して、前記第2データ線に印加される複数のプレチャージ電圧のうちの一つを前記第1データ線に出力するプレチャージスイッチと、を含み、

- 前記各プレチャージスイッチは、これに接続された前記第1データ線に前記第1データ電流が伝達される前に、電圧レベルの異なる複数のプレチャージ電圧のうちのいずれか1つを選択して、前記第1データ線に伝達することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の有機電界発光表示装置。
- 前記第1データ電流の階調レベルが0以外である場合には、各階調に対応して設定された前記プレチャージ電圧を選択して前記第1データ線に伝達し、前記第1データ電流の階調レベルが0である場合には、前記複数のプレチャージ電圧のうち、最も電圧レベルの高いプレチャージ電圧を選択して、前記第1データ線に伝達することを特徴とする請求項4に記載の有機電界発光表示装置。

- 前記第1データ電流の階調レベルが0以外である場合には、各階調に対応して設定された前記プレチャージ電圧を選択して前記第1データ線に伝達し、前記第1データ電流の階調レベルが0である場合には、前記複数のプレチャージ電圧のうち、最も電圧レベルの高いプレチャージ電圧を選択して前記第1データ線に伝達することを特徴とする請求項14に記載の逆多重化装置。
