また、本発明の液晶表示装置では、広視野角特性の表示領域のうち、任意の表示領域を狭視野角特性としてもよい。この場合、狭視野角特性で表示すべき領域の液晶に対して、狭視野角特性用の電界を印加するようにすればよい。

Claims (12)
- 白表示時の液晶層を正面から見た正面透過率、液晶層を斜め60°方向から見た斜め視野角の透過率を夫々1とした場合に、液晶層に印加する印加電圧の全範囲に亘って上記斜め視野角の透過強度が正面の透過強度より大きく、且つ、画素を構成する一つまたは複数の絵素領域において、印加電圧の変化に対する透過強度の変動が小さい範囲が広い第1の領域と、印加電圧の変化に対する透過強度の変動が第1の領域より大きい範囲が広い第2の領域とが混在するように液晶の配向状態が制御された液晶表示パネルと、
上記液晶層を正面から見た場合には光透過状態にあり、上記液晶層を斜め方向60°から見た場合には上記第2の領域の全部または一部に対応する領域のみが遮光状態あるいは光透過状態の何れかになるように設定する光透過状態設定手段が設けられ、
上記光透過状態設定手段は、遮光状態と光透過状態とが切り替わる遮光層からなり、
上記遮光層は、上記液晶表示パネルへの光入射側であって、該液晶表示パネルの画素電極に駆動用の信号を供給するための信号ラインと対応する位置にのみ設けられていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 上記遮光層は、光散乱状態と光透過状態が切り替わる高分子分散型液晶からなる液晶層であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 上記光透過状態設定手段は、液晶表示パネルの任意の領域における第2の領域の全部または一部を遮光状態に設定することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 上記光透過状態設定手段は、液晶表示パネルの全体の第2の領域の全部または一部を光透過状態に設定した状態で、該液晶表示パネルの任意の領域における第2の領域の全部または一部を遮光状態に設定することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 上記光透過状態設定手段は、液晶表示パネルの全体の第2の領域の全部または一部を遮光状態に設定した状態で、該液晶表示パネルの任意の領域における第2の領域の全部または一部を光透過状態に設定することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 上記液晶表示パネル内の液晶は、放射状傾斜方向に配向制御されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 上記液晶表示パネル内の液晶は、4分割ドメイン方向に配向制御されていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 請求項1から7の何れか1項に記載の液晶表示装置を備えたことを特徴とする電子機器。
- メール機能、カメラ撮影機能、インターネット接続機能、TV受像機能のうち、少なくとも2種類の機能が実行可能であり、且つ、上記各機能を実行したときに実行内容を表示する、上記請求項1から7の何れか1項に記載の液晶表示装置を備えた電子機器。
- 上記第2の領域の全部または一部が、斜め方向から見て遮光状態あるいは光透過状態の何れかの状態に設定されるかは、実行される機能毎に予め決められていることを特徴とする請求項9に記載の電子機器。
- 上記光透過状態設定手段は、インターネット接続機能およびメール機能を実行する際には、上記第2の領域の全部または一部を、斜め方向から見て遮光状態に設定することを特徴とする請求項9に記載の電子機器。
- 上記光透過状態設定手段は、カメラ撮影機能を実行する際には、上記第2の領域の全部または一部を、斜め方向から見て光透過状態に設定することを特徴とする請求項9に記載の電子機器。
