Claims (16)
- 複数の発光ダイオード・ディスプレイ素子(312)を含むディスプレイ(302)のためのドライバ(850)であって、
前記ディスプレイ素子をアドレス指定するためのアドレス指定回路(852、854)と、
前記ディスプレイ素子を照射するために前記ディスプレイ素子の少なくとも1つに順方向駆動を提供するよう前記アドレス指定回路と協働する第1のドライバ(806)と、
前記ディスプレイ素子の他のものからのフォトルミネセンスのレベルを減少するために、前記少なくとも1つのディスプレイ素子が照射されたのと同時に前記ディスプレイ素子の前記他のものに逆バイアス駆動を提供する第2のドライバ(810)と、
前記第1のドライバのための正の電圧供給から前記第2のドライバのための負の電圧を発生するための電源(808)と、
を備え、前記少なくとも1つの照射されたディスプレイ素子に前記順方向駆動を提供すると同時に、前記少なくとも1つの照射されたディスプレイ素子を除く実質的にすべてのディスプレイ素子に前記逆バイアス駆動を提供するよう構成されたドライバ。 - 前記第1のドライバは電流ドライバを含み、前記第2のドライバは電圧ドライバを含む請求項1に記載のドライバ。
- 前記逆バイアス駆動は、少なくとも5ボルトの、好ましくは少なくとも10ボルトの、より好ましくは少なくとも20ボルトの逆バイアス電圧駆動を含む請求項1または2に記載のドライバ。
- 前記ディスプレイ素子にパルス幅変調の明るさ制御を提供するよう構成された請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載のドライバ。
- 前記順方向駆動は、実質的な定電流駆動を含む請求項1乃至4のいずれかに記載のドライバ。
- 前記ディスプレイは、受動マトリクス・ディスプレイを含む請求項1乃至5のいずれかに記載のドライバ。
- 前記ディスプレイ素子は、1つ以上の色のディスプレイ素子を含む請求項1乃至6のいずれかに記載のドライバ。
- 前記ディスプレイ素子は、有機発光ダイオードを含む請求項1乃至7のいずれかに記載のドライバ。
- 前記ディスプレイと、請求項1乃至8のいずれかに記載のドライバとの組合せであって、前記逆バイアス駆動は、すべてのディスプレイ素子がオフの場合、5400Kの温度において黒体に近似した発生源からの少なくとも1000ルクスの照度、より好ましくは10,000ルクスの照度、最も好ましくは100,000ルクスの照度の下で、少なくとも5%のフォトルミネセンスの減少、好ましくは少なくとも10%のフォトルミネセンスの減少、より好ましくは少なくとも20%のフォトルミネセンスの減少、最も好ましくは少なくとも50%のフォトルミネセンスの減少を提供するのに充分である、前記ディスプレイと前記ドライバとの組合せ。
- 前記ディスプレイと、請求項1乃至8のいずれかに記載のドライバとの組合せであって、前記逆バイアス駆動は、5400Kにおいて黒体に近似した発生源からの少なくとも1000ルクスの照度の下で、前記ディスプレイのコントラストにおける視覚的に認識可能な改良を提供するのに充分である、前記ディスプレイと前記ドライバとの組合せ。
- 複数の発光ダイオード・ディスプレイ素子(312)を備えたディスプレイ(302)におけるコントラストを改善するためにディスプレイ・ドライバ(850)を用いる方法であって、発光させないディスプレイ素子からのフォトルミネセンスを少なくとも部分的に抑制するために、該発光させないディスプレイ素子の実質的にすべてを逆バイアスするよう前記ディスプレイ・ドライバを動作させる段階を含み、それにより、前記ディスプレイのコントラストを高めるようにした方法。
- 前記フォトルミネセンスは、実質的に完全に抑制されるようにした請求 項11に記載の方法。
- 発光させるディスプレイ素子を順方向バイアスするよう前記ディスプレイ・ドライバを動作させる段階をさらに含み、前記発光させないディスプレイ素子の前記逆バイアスは、前記発光させるディスプレイ素子の前記順方向バイアスと時間的に重複する請求項11または12に記載の方法。
- 前記ディスプレイは、電源電圧を用いて駆動され、前記逆バイアスは、前記ディスプレイの前記発光させないディスプレイ素子に印加するための前記電源電圧の極性とは反対極性の電圧を発生させることを含む請求項11乃至13のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 前記発光ダイオード・ディスプレイ素子は、有機発光ダイオード・ディスプレイ素子を含む請求項11乃至14のいずれかに記載の方法。
- 複数の発光ダイオード・ディスプレイ素子を備えたディスプレイにおけるコントラストを改善するためのディスプレイ・ドライバの使用方法であって、発光させないディスプレイ素子からのフォトルミネセンスを少なくとも部分的に抑制するために、該発光させないディスプレイ素子の実質的にすべてを逆バイアスするよう前記ディスプレイ・ドライバを用いる段階を含む使用方法。
