本明細書に記載されるコーティングは、水性インクジェット印刷ヘッド(例えば、圧電式またはサーマル式の印刷ヘッド)と共に使用されてもよく、コーティングに対し、吐出された水性インク液滴が、低い付着性を示すようにすることができる。表面に対するインク液滴の付着は、水性インク液滴のすべり角を測定することによって決定することができ、すべり角は、残渣または染みを残すことなくインク液滴が表面をすべり始めるときの、水平面に対して表面が傾いた角度である。すべり角が小さいほど、インク液滴と表面との付着が小さくなる。
ある実施形態では、本明細書に記載する濡れ防止性低付着性表面コーティングは、少なくとも1種類のトリイソシアネートと、エチルオキシル化スペーサーを含むペルフルオロポリエーテルジオール化合物とを含む、反応剤混合物の反応生成物である。
OH−(CH2CH2O)−CH2−CF2O−(CF2CF2O)b−(CF2O)c−CF2−CH2−(CH2CH2O)−OH
を有し、分子量が約500〜約2000AMU、例えば、約1500AMUであり、bおよびcが、0〜50の範囲の整数であり、但し、bおよびcの少なくとも1つがゼロではない化合物が挙げられる。ある実施形態では、適切なペルフルオロポリエーテルジオール化合物は、Solvay Solexisから入手可能なFluorolink(登録商標)E10Hの名称で得られてもよい。
ある実施形態では、水性インクジェットプリンタは、水性インクを向かわせるために用いられるプレート積層体の中の最終的なプレートの開口部またはノズルの列を備える。本明細書の議論は、吐出部積層体としてのプレート積層体と、ノズルプレートとしての最終的なプレートを指す。図2は、ノズルプレート24に結合した濡れ防止性低付着性表面コーティング26を有する印刷ヘッド吐出部積層体の一実施形態を示す。ノズルプレートは、開口部支持補強材22に結合したポリマー膜、例えば、ポリイミド膜であってもよい。開口部支持補強材22は、ステンレスのような任意の適切な材料から作られ、本明細書に定義される開口部22aを有している。開口部22aは、インク供給源からの水性インクが、印刷ヘッド吐出部積層体20から、開口部22aを介して記録基材へと吐出されるように水性インク供給源と連通していてもよい。
水性インクは、コーティング、本明細書に記載する水性インクおよび方法と共に使用するように構成されたインクジェット印刷ヘッドと共に使用してもよく、水、着色剤および場合により他の成分、例えば、共溶媒(保水剤)、界面活性剤、バインダー、バッファーおよび殺生物剤を含む。水は、着色剤および任意要素の添加剤のための液体担体(または媒体)として作用する。
38.3グラムのFluorolink(登録商標)E10Hを、滴下漏斗、温度プローブおよび凝縮器を取り付けた3ッ口丸底フラスコに加えた。245mLのNovec(商標)7200、170mLの酢酸エチルおよび0.333グラムのジブチルスズジラウレート触媒を、この3ッ口丸底フラスコに加え、内容物を攪拌し、窒素雰囲気下、穏やかに環流するまで加熱した(約71℃)。11.6グラムのDesmodur(登録商標)3790を、酢酸エチル445mLおよびNovec(商標)7200 145mLに溶解することによって、第2の溶液を調製した。次いで、このトリイソシアネート溶液を、上の丸底フラスコに接続した滴下漏斗に移し、71℃〜72℃で2時間かけ、Fluorolink(登録商標)E10H溶液に滴下した。得られた反応剤混合物を一晩攪拌した(約18時間)。室温まで冷却した後、生成物溶液を、Millipore Opticap(登録商標)XLフィルタ(孔径0.2ミクロン)を用いて濾過し、生成物溶液を得た。生成物溶液の固体濃度は、約4〜5%であった。
実施例1に従って調製したコーティングの接触角およびすべり角を、Dataphysics製のOCA20ゴニオメータ−で評価した。典型的な静的接触角測定では、約10マイクロリットルの水性インクを、実施例1のコーティング表面に穏やかに置き、コンピュータソフトウエア(SCA20)によって静的な角度を決定した。それぞれの報告したデータは、5個より多い独立した測定の平均である。
印刷ヘッドを以下のように組み立てた。図2に示すポリイミド開口部のアセンブリを、実施例1に記載されるような低付着性濡れ防止性コーティング26で、Ube Industriesから入手可能なポリイミド膜Upilex(登録商標)から製造する開口プレート24の外側表面をコーティングすることによって、組み立てた。ステンレス鋼開口部の支持材22を、高温熱可塑性接着剤、すなわち、熱可塑性ポリイミド膜DuPont(登録商標)ELJ−100を用い、290℃、350psiで30分かけて開口プレート(コーティングされたポリイミド膜)に結合した。レーザを使用し、開口プレートにノズルをあけた。次いで、得られたポリイミド開口部のアセンブリを、吐出部積層体/PZTのアセンブリおよびマニホルドに接着し、結合し、印刷ヘッドを得た。
実施例1に従って調製されたコーティングを用い、実施例3に従って組み立てられた原型印刷ヘッドも、良好な液垂れ性能を示す。液垂れ圧を、Omega Engineering,Inc.(スタンフォード、コネチカット)から市販されるDPIS8型の圧力トランデューサを用いて測定し、マノメーターに対して較正した。図5は、E10Hコーティングを用いて構築したいくつかの印刷ヘッドの液垂れ圧を示す。図5からわかるように、液垂れ圧は、E10Hコーティングを用いて作られたすべての印刷ヘッドについて、1.5インチの水という低い規格値より上を維持していた。
印刷ヘッドのコーティング表面を水性インクに浸し、インクを乾燥させることによって、汚れた表面ときれいな表面の接触角の差を評価した。図6は、水性染料(Collins染料、Collins顔料、INX顔料およびHunts MICR)に対する平均接触角が、表面に乾燥した水性インクが含まれている場合であっても40°より大きいことを示す。
Claims (10)
- 水性インクジェット印刷ヘッド前面のためのコーティングであって、
エチルオキシル化スペーサーを含むペルフルオロポリエーテルジオール化合物と、
トリイソシアネートとを含み、
水性インクの液滴が、コーティング表面で、約30°より小さなすべり角と、約40°より大きな接触角を示す、コーティング。 - 水性インクの液滴が、硬化後に、コーティング表面で30°より小さなすべり角を示し、コーティング表面で40°より大きな接触角を示し、この硬化が、
約130℃の温度で約30分間の第1の硬化処理と、
約290℃の温度で約30分間の第2の硬化処理とを含む、請求項1に記載のコーティング。 - ペルフルオロポリエーテルジオール化合物が、一般式:
OH−(CH2CH2O)−CH2CF2O−(CF2CF2O)b(CF2O)cCF2−CH2−(CH2CH2O)−OH
を有し、分子量が約1500AMUであり、bおよびcは、0〜50の整数である、請求項1に記載のコーティング。 - トリイソシアネートが、以下の一般構造によって表され、
- コーティングが、
トリイソシアネートとエチルオキシル化スペーサーを含むペルフルオロポリエーテルジオール化合物とを含む反応混合物で基材をコーティングすることと、
反応剤混合物に対し、約130℃の温度で約30分間の第1の硬化処理を行い、その後、コーティング反応剤混合物に対し、約290℃の温度で約30分間の第2の硬化処理を行うこととを含む方法によって調製され、
反応剤混合物を作成することが、
約71℃の温度で、トリイソシアネートと、ヒドロキシル官能基化されたペルフルオロポリオキシアルカンを混合することを含む、請求項1に記載のコーティング。 - 水性インクを放出するような構成のインクジェット印刷ヘッドであって、
その表面に、請求項1に記載の濡れ防止性低付着性コーティングを堆積させた前面を有し、吐出された水性インクの液滴は、コーティングを有する印刷ヘッド前面表面で、低いすべり角と高い接触角を示し、この低いすべり角が約30°より小さく、接触角が、約40°より大きい、インクジェット印刷ヘッド。 - 前面は、ステンレス鋼またはポリイミドを含むノズルプレートを備える、請求項6に記載のインクジェット印刷ヘッド。
- 接触角が約55°より大きく、すべり角が約20°より小さい、請求項6に記載のインクジェット印刷ヘッド。
- 液垂れ圧が、1.5インチの水より高い圧力に維持される、請求項6に記載のインクジェット印刷ヘッド。
- 水性インクを放出するように構成されたインクジェット印刷ヘッド前面に対する液垂れ、濡れまたは付着を減らす方法であって、この方法が、
インクジェット前面の表面に濡れ防止性低付着コーティングを配置することと、
印刷ヘッドから、界面活性剤を含む水性インクの液滴を放出させ、水性インクの液滴が、コーティング表面で、約40°より大きな接触角と、約30°より小さなすべり角を示す、方法。
