Abstract
【解決手段】本発明にかかる面光源装置は、第1の光を発する第1の光源と、第1の光を入射して第1の線状光に変換する第1の導光棒と、第1の光よりも大きな発散角を有する第2の光を発する第2の光源と、第2の光を第1の線状光と同一方向に延びる第2の線状光に変換する第2の導光棒とを備える。また、面光源装置は、第1及び第2の導光棒より面状光の出射側に配置される反射バーと、第1の導光棒、第2の光源、第2の導光棒及び反射バーを収容し、内壁が反射面となる箱形状であって面状光の出射側の面に開口部を有する反射部と、を備える。第1及び第2の線状光は、反射バー及び反射面で反射され、開口部から反射部の外部に出射される。

Description
<A−1.構成>
図1,3は、実施の形態1に係る液晶表示装置100の構成を示している。図1は、液晶表示装置100を一方向から見た図であり、図3は、図1における方向とは異なる方向から液晶表示装置100を見た図である。図2は、液晶表示装置100の構成要素である面光源装置200の構成を示している。
白色LEDは、青色から赤色まで広いスペクトルを有する白色光を出力する。また、発光効率が高く低消費電力化に有効である。そのため、近年、多くの液晶表示装置のバックライトユニットの光源として白色LEDが採用されている。
図2,3に示すように、レーザー導光棒7は、x軸方向をその長手方向とし、y軸方向に所定の間隔をあけて複数配置されている。各レーザー導光棒7における長手方向の両端面は、+x軸側が入射面71(第1の入射面)、−x軸側が入射面72(第2の入射面)である。レーザー光源9(より具体的には、レーザー光源9の発光部)は、レンズ15を挟んで入射面71,72に対向する位置にそれぞれ配置されている。レーザー光源9から出射されたレーザー光L90(第1の光)は、入射面71,72からレーザー導光棒7の内部に入射する。
図6は、本実施の形態の変形例1に係る面光源装置201の構成図である。図1,2に示す面光源装置200では、レンズ15をレーザー導光棒7の入射面71,72のそれぞれに対向して配置していた。これに対し、面光源装置201では、レーザー導光棒7の入射面72とレーザー光源9との間にレンズ15を配置するものの、入射面71の側にはレンズ15を配置せず、レーザー光源9の出力光を入射面71に直接入射する。この場合、入射面71とレーザー光源9の間隔は温度や湿度により変化しないよう固定して近接配置される。一方、レンズ15を備えた入射面72側は、温度及び湿度によりレーザー導光棒7の長さが変化できるように構成する。これによりレンズ15の個数を半減して面光源装置200を構成できる。
面状光を出射する面光源装置200〜203は、レーザー光L90(第1の光)を発するレーザー光源9(第1の光源)と、入射面71,72を有し、第1の光を入射面71,72から入射して、第1の線状光に変換するレーザー導光棒7(第1の導光棒)と、レーザー光L90よりも大きな発散角を有するLED光L100(第2の光)を発するLED光源10(第2の光源)と、入射面81を有し、LED光100を入射面81から入射して、第1の線状光と同一方向に延びる第2の線状光に変換するLED導光棒8(第2の導光棒)と、を備える。また、面光源装置200は、レーザー導光棒7及びLED導光棒8より面状光の出射側に配置される反射バー6と、レーザー導光棒7、LED光源10、LED導光棒8及び反射バー6を収容する反射部5を備える。反射部5は、内壁が第1及び第2の線状光を反射する反射面となる箱形状であって、面状光の出射側の面に開口部56を有する。このような構成によって、第1及び第2の線状光は、反射バー6及び反射面で反射されることにより混ざり合う他、隣接するレーザー導光棒7及びLED導光棒8の線状光とも混ざり合うため、色むらや輝度むらがない均一な面状光を、開口部56から反射部5の外部に出射することができる。

入射面を有し、前記第1の光を当該入射面から入射して、第1の線状光に変換する第1の導光棒と、
前記第1の光よりも大きな発散角を有する第2の光を発する第2の光源と、
入射面を有し、前記第2の光を当該入射面から入射して、前記第1の線状光と同一方向に延びる第2の線状光に変換する第2の導光棒と、

面光源装置。 - 前記第1の導光棒の入射面は、前記第1の導光棒の長手方向の端面である第1の入射面及び第2の入射面であり、
前記第1の光源は、前記第1及び第2の入射面に対向する位置にそれぞれ設けられた一対の光源である、
請求項1に記載の面光源装置。 - 前記第1の導光棒は、前記第1及び第2の入射面を含む端部が前記反射部の外部に突出し、
前記第1の光源は、前記反射部の外部に配置され、
前記第2の光源及び前記第2の導光棒は、前記反射部の内側に配置される、
請求項2に記載の面光源装置。 - 前記第2の導光棒の入射面は、前記第2の導光棒の長手方向に沿って、前記出射側とは反対側に形成される第3の入射面であり、
前記第2の光源は、前記第3の入射面と対向する位置に配置される、
請求項2又は3に記載の面光源装置。 - 前記第1の光を集光するレンズをさらに備え、
前記レンズは、前記第1の入射面とこれに対向する前記第1の光源との間、及び前記第2の入射面とこれに対向する前記第1の光源との間の少なくともいずれか一方に配置される、
請求項2から4のいずれか1項に記載の面光源装置。 - 前記第1の導光棒は、前記第2の導光棒よりも前記開口部側に配置される、
請求項4に記載の面光源装置。 - 前記第1の導光棒は、透明材料と前記透明材料よりも屈折率の高い拡散材とを用いて構成され、入射した前記第1の光を拡散反射して出射する、
請求項1から6のいずれか1項に記載の面光源装置。 - 前記第1の光源はレーザー光源である、
請求項1から7のいずれか1項に記載の面光源装置。 - 前記第2の光源はLED光源である、
請求項1から8のいずれか1項に記載の面光源装置。 - 面状光を出射する面光源装置であって、
光源と、
前記光源の光を受けて線状光に変換する導光棒と、
前記導光棒より前記面状光の出射側に配置される反射バーと、
前記光源、前記導光棒及び前記反射バーを収容し、内壁が前記線状光を反射する反射面となる箱形状であって、前記面状光の出射側の面に開口部を有する反射部と、
を備え、
前記線状光は、前記反射バー及び前記反射面で反射され、前記開口部から前記反射部の外部に出射される、
面光源装置。 - 請求項1から10のいずれか1項に記載の面光源装置と、
前記面光源装置からの光で照明されることにより画像を表示する液晶パネルと、
を備える、
液晶表示装置。
