Abstract
【解決手段】本発明の実施形態による液晶表示装置は、互いに対向する第1の基板及び第2の基板と、前記第1の基板上に位置する画素電極と、前記第2の基の上に位置する共通電極と、前記画素電極及び前記共通電極上のうちの少なくとも一方に位置し、偏光の照射によって形成された配向膜と、前記画素電極と前記共通電極との間に位置し、複数の液晶分子を含む液晶層と、を備える。画素は前記画素電極を備え、前記液晶層の液晶分子の平均配向方向が互いに異なる複数のドメインを備える。前記画素電極における前記各ドメインに対応する部分のうちの少なくとも一部分は、対応するドメインの平均配格子の後部側に位置する画素電極の辺に沿って伸びる開口部を備える。

Claims (10)
- 第1の基板と、
前記第1の基板と対向する第2の基板と、
前記第1の基板上に位置する画素電極と、
前記第2の基板上に位置する共通電極と、
前記画素電極及び前記共通電極上のうちの少なくとも一方の上に位置し、偏光の照射によって形成された少なくとも一つの配向膜と、
前記画素電極と前記共通電極との間に位置し、複数の液晶分子を含む液晶層と、
を備え、
前記画素電極を備える画素は第1のドメインを含む複数のドメインを備え、
前記複数のドメインは互いに異なる前記液晶分子の平均配向を有し、
前記画素電極は前記第1のドメイン内に位置する第1の開口部を備え、
前記第1の開口部は前記第1のドメインの平均配格子の後部側に位置する前記画素電極の辺部分である後部側辺部分に実質的に平行に伸びることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1の開口部の幅は、前記液晶層の厚さの2倍以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の開口部は、前記液晶層の厚さの2倍以下に見合う分だけ前記後部側辺部分から離れていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の開口部は、前記後部側辺部分と垂直な前記画素電極の辺に実質的に平行に延びることを特徴とする請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の開口部は、
前記画素電極の横中心線から始まって前記画素電極の第1の辺に実質的に平行に伸びる第1の部分と、
前記画素電極の縦中心線からそれぞれ始まって前記画素電極の第2の辺に実質的に平行に伸びる第2の部分と、
を備え、
前記第1の開口部の第1の部分と第2の部分とは、前記画素電極の隅部で合流することを特徴とする請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1の開口部は前記画素電極の第1の隅部に位置し、
前記画素電極は前記画素電極の対角線方向に前記第1の開口部と対向する第2の隅部に位置する第2の開口部をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項5に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素電極は、前記画素電極の第3及び第4の隅部にそれぞれ位置する第3及び第4の開口部を備えることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極は、前記画素電極の横中心線に沿って伸びる切欠部を備え、
前記切欠部の横中心線方向の長さは、前記画素電極の横中心線方向の長さよりも短いことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素の全体領域は遮光領域によって囲まれており、
前記画素電極の辺における、前記後部側辺部分ではない他の一部分は前記遮光領域とオーバーラップすることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 第1の基板と、
前記第1の基板と対向する第2の基板と、
前記第1の基板上に位置する画素電極と、
前記第2の基板上に位置する共通電極と、
前記画素電極と前記共通電極との間に位置し、複数の液晶分子を含む液晶層と、
を備え、
前記画素電極を備える画素は、前記液晶層の液晶分子の平均配向方向が互いに異なる複数のドメインを備え、
前記画素電極における前記各ドメインに対応する部分のうちの少なくとも一部分は、対応するドメインの平均配格子の後部側に位置する前記画素電極の辺部分である後部側辺部分に沿って伸びる開口部を備え、
前記画素電極は、前記開口部を除いて連続的な面を有し、
前記共通電極は連続的な面を有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
