Abstract
【解決手段】 マルチコアファイバ1は、6以上の偶数個のコアと、それぞれのコアの外周面を囲むクラッド20と、を備え、コアは、基本モードの実効屈折率差がコア間距離に応じて変動する所定の範囲以上で0.002以下とされる2種類のコア11,12から成ると共に、2種類のコア11,12が環状に等間隔で交互に配置され、コア11,12を伝播する光のモードフィールド径の差が1μm以下とされることを特徴とする。

Description
図1は、本発明の実施形態に係るマルチコアファイバの様子を示す図であり、具体的には、図1(A)は、マルチコアファイバの長手方向に垂直な断面における構造を示す図であり、図1(B)は、図1(A)のマルチコアファイバ1のB−B線における実効屈折率の様子を模式的に示す図である。なお、図1(B)は、マルチコアファイバが直線状である場合の実効屈折率を模式的に示している。
次に、本発明の第2実施形態について図7を参照して詳細に説明する。なお、第1実施形態と同一又は同等の構成要素については、同一の参照符号を付して特に説明する場合を除き重複する説明は省略する。
純粋なシリカガラスから成り、直径が160μmのクラッド内に2種類のコアから成る6つのコアが等間隔で全体が正六角形に配置されたマルチコアファイバを準備した。2種類のコアは、交互に配置されており、互いに隣り合うコアのコア間距離は40μmであった。一方の種類のコアでは、半径が4.5μmであり、クラッドに対する比屈折率差が0.40%であり、実効屈折率が1.453であった。また、他方の種類のコアでは、半径が4.0μmであり、クラッドに対する比屈折率差が0.35%であり、実効屈折率が1.452であった。従って、互いに隣り合うコアの実効屈折率差は、0.001となる。
一方の種類のコアでは、半径が4.8μmであり、クラッドに対する比屈折率差が0.41%であり、実効屈折率が1.4534であった。また、他方の種類のコアでは、半径が4.3μmであり、クラッドに対する比屈折率差が0.36%であり、実効屈折率が1.4524であった。従って、互いに隣り合うコアの実効屈折率差は、0.001となる。これ以外の条件は実施例1と同様にした。
図12に示す全体で12個の2種類のコア要素が、全体として正12角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバと、図13に示す全体で12個の2種類のコア要素が、全体として正六角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバとを下記表1に示すパラメータで作製した。ただし、コア間距離は31μmとした。コアが全体として正12角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバのクラッドの外径は、188μm〜196μmであり、コアが全体として正六角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバのクラッドの外径は、192μm〜200μmであった。また、それぞれのコアにおける波長1550nmでの実効断面積Aeffは、90μm2であり、ケーブルカットオフ波長は1530nmである。なお、表1において、wは第2クラッドの厚さを示し、r1はそれぞれのコアの半径を示し、r2は第1クラッドの外周の半径を示す。従って、w/r1はコアの半径に対する第2クラッドの厚さの比を示し、r2/r1はコアの半径に対する第1クラッドの外周の半径の比を示す。また、Δ1は、クラッドに対するそれぞれのコアの比屈折率差を示す。また、コアが全体として正12角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバと、コアが全体として正六角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバとで、特性の違いが特に見られなかったため、下記パラメータで作成されたコアが全体として正12角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバと、コアが全体として正六角形をなるように配置されたマルチコアファイバのそれぞれを一つの実施形態としている。
次に、実施例3〜5と同様のマルチコアファイバをコア間距離が32μmと成るように作製した。実施例6のマルチコアファイバのパラメータは、実施例3と同様にし、実施例7のマルチコアファイバのパラメータは、実施例4と同様にし、実施例8のマルチコアファイバのパラメータは、実施例5と同様にした。
次に、実施例3〜5と同様のマルチコアファイバをコア間距離が33μmと成るように作製した。実施例9のマルチコアファイバのパラメータは、実施例3と同様にし、実施例10のマルチコアファイバのパラメータは、実施例4と同様にし、実施例11のマルチコアファイバのパラメータは、実施例5と同様にした。
第2実施形態のマルチコアファイバ2のようにトレンチ構造を有する2種類のコア要素が計10個交互に配置されており、それぞれのコア間距離が互いに等しく、それぞれのコアが正10角形となるように配置されたマルチコアファイバの構造を解析した。実施例12のマルチコアファイバは、実効屈折率Aeffが110μm2とし、実施例13のマルチコアファイバは、実効屈折率Aeffが100μm2とした。また、それぞれのマルチコアファイバの第1クラッドのクラッドに対する比屈折率差Δ2は、0.0%とし、第2クラッドのクラッドに対する比屈折率差Δ3は、−0.7%とした。また、その他のパラメータは、下記表2に示すものとした。

- 前記コアの数をnとする場合、前記コアは正n角形状に配置される
ことを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載のマルチコアファイバ。 - 前記コアは、正六角形状に配置される
ことを特徴とする請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載のマルチコアファイバ。
