Abstract

くとも1つの実施の形態は、ネットワークデバイスの物理的な位置を決定するためのシステムおよび方法を提供する。他の実施の形態は、ネットワークデバイスの機能的なタイプを決定するためのシステムおよび方法を提供する。
1つの実施の形態においては、ブロック204、206、208、209、210、212は、ネットワークに接続される他のネットワークデバイスに関して繰り返される。代替的な実施の形態においては、プロセス200は、特定のネットワークサブネット内のネットワークデバイスに関してのみ繰り返される。プロセス200は、要求に応じて、あるいは電力コンセントにおける電力需要の実質的な変化が検出された際に実行される。たとえば、1つの実施の形態においては、ネットワークデバイスが追加されたり取り替えられたりしたときに、電力の変化が検出され、プロセス200が実行され得る。加えて、プロセス200は、一度限りの処理、あるいは繰返しの処理としてスケジュールされ得る。
1つの実施の形態においては、ブロック404、406、408、410、412が、当該ネットワークに接続される他のネットワークデバイスのために繰り返される。代替的な実施の形態においては、プロセス400は、特定のネットワークサブネット内のネットワークデバイスのためだけに繰り返される。プロセス400は、要求に応じて、あるいは電力コンセントの電力需要の実質的な変化の発生に応じて実行され得る。たとえば、1つの実施の形態においては、ネットワークデバイスが追加されたり取り替えられたりしたときに、電力の変化が検出され、プロセス400が実行される。加えて、プロセス400は、1度のあるいは繰返しの処理として予定されてもよい。

MI(Power Supply Management Interface)コールや、ACPI(Advanced Configuration & Power Interface)コールや、SNMPコールを含むプロトコルを用いることによ
って、電力消費の変更を開始し得る。たとえば、モジュール304は、ネットワークデバイスにおいて実行されるクライアントアプリケーションに対する遠隔のプロシージャの呼出を実行するために、ネットワークデバイスの名前を利用するサーバアプリケーションを含み得る。遠隔のプロシージャの呼出に応じて、ネットワークデバイス上のクライアントアプリケーションは、ネットワークデバイスの電力消費モードをフルパワーに変更し、代替的には、電力消費を最小値に低減するためのオペレーティングシステムのコマンドを実行し得る。同様に、オペレーティングシステムのコマンドは、ネットワークデバイスに、CPUの利用情報をモジュール304に供給させ得る。他の実施の形態においては、モジュール304は、ネットワークデバイス自体に装備され、予め定められた予定表に従って、あるいはシステムイベント、たとえばネットワークデバイスのブート、に応じて、オペレーティングシステムの電力消費の変更コマンドを実行し得る。
Redwood Shoresにあるオラクルの欧米データベース、スウェーデンのUPPSALAのMySQL ABのMySQLや、ニューヨーク州のハーモンクにあるIBMのWebSphereミドルウェアのようなデータベース管理システムのような、現存する商品を利用することによって実現され得る。SQLサーバが、本発明の実施の形態を実現するために一般的な目的のためのコンピュータシステムにインストールされると、同様の一般的な目的のためのコンピュータシステムがさまざまなアプリケーションのためのデータベースをサポートできるようになる。
Claims (5)
- ネットワークデバイスの機能的なタイプを決定するための方法であって、
配電デバイスにおける前記ネットワークデバイスによる電力の引き出しを監視し、
前記電力の引き出しに基づいて前記ネットワークデバイスの機能的なタイプを決定する、方法。 - コンピュータ読取可能な信号を格納するコンピュータ読取可能な媒体であって、
前記信号は、プロセッサに実行される結果として、前記プロセッサに請求項1に記載の方法を実行するように指示する指令を定義する、媒体。 - 自動的にネットワークデバイスの機能的なタイプを検出するためのシステムであって、
ネットワークデバイス情報を受け取るように配置され構成される少なくとも1つの入力手段と、
配電デバイスにおける電力需要に基づいて、当該配電デバイスから供給を受ける潜在的なネットワークデバイスの機能的なタイプのリストを作成するように配置され構成される少なくとも1つのコントローラと、
前記潜在的なネットワークデバイスの機能的なタイプのリストを選択のために表示するように配置され構成される少なくとも1つの出力手段と、
当該選択を記録するように配置され構成される入力手段とを備える、システム。 - 前記少なくとも1つのコントローラは、さらに、第1の電力供給のための第1の入力手段と第2の電力供給のための第2の入力手段とを有する変換スイッチを含む少なくとも1つのネットワークデバイスを決定するように配置され構成され、
前記少なくとも1つの出力手段は、さらに、前記変換スイッチを含む少なくとも1つのネットワークデバイスを表示するように配置され構成される、請求項3に記載のシステム。 - 前記少なくとも1つの出力手段は、さらに、前記第1の電力供給を供給する配電デバイスと前記第2の電力供給を供給する配電デバイスとを表示するように配置され構成される、請求項4に記載のシステム。
