Abstract
【解決手段】複数のEL層が電荷発生層によって仕切られている発光素子において、電荷発生領域の陽極側に接して設けられた電子リレー層と、当該電子リレー層に接して設けられた電子輸送層とを有し、当該電子輸送層はアルカリ土類金属を含み、さらに電子輸送層に含まれるアルカリ土類金属が、電子輸送層と電子リレー層の界面から陽極側に向かってその濃度が小さくなるような濃度勾配を有する構成を有する発光素子を提供する。

Description
図2に本発明の一態様である発光素子の概念図を示す。図2に示す発光素子は一対の電極(陽極100、陰極101)間にn層のEL層を有している。最も陽極100側のEL層を1番目のEL層102k、最も陰極101側のEL層をn番目のEL層102nとした。図2の発光素子にはEL層(1番目のEL層102k・・・m番目のEL層102m・・・n番目のEL層102n)、中間層(1番目の中間層103k・・・m番目の中間層103m・・・n−1番目の中間層103n−1)、第1の層(1番目の第1の層104k・・・m番目の第1の層104m・・・n−1番目の第1の層104n−1)、第2の層(1番目の第2の層105k・・・m番目の第2の層105m・・・n−1番目の第2の層105n−1)、電子輸送層(1番目の電子輸送層106k・・・m番目の電子輸送層106m・・・n−1番目の電子輸送層106n−1、n番目の電子輸送層106n)などが含まれている。なお、複数のEL層を総称してEL層102、複数の中間層を総称して中間層103、複数の第1の層を総称して第1の層104、複数の第2の層を総称して第2の層105及び複数の電子輸送層を総称して電子輸送層106と呼ぶ場合もある。また、陽極100と陰極101に挟まれたEL層102とEL層間に存在する各中間層を総称して有機化合物を含む層110とする。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態1に示した発光素子を用いて作製された発光装置の一例について説明する。なお、本発明の一態様である発光装置は以下に説明する構成を有する発光装置のみに限定されず、その表示を担う部分(本実施の形態では画素部602)に実施の形態1に示した発光素子が含まれているもの全てを含むものとする。
本実施の形態では、実施の形態2で説明したような本発明を適用した一態様である発光装置を用いて完成させた様々な電子機器および照明器具の例について、図7を用いて説明する。
本実施例では実施の形態1で示した本発明の一態様である発光素子について、図8を参照しながら説明する。また、本実施例で用いた材料の化学式を以下に示す。
続いて、発光素子1及び発光素子2と同様の構成を有する発光素子を複数用いて各画素における異なる色の画素間における発光領域間の距離が約8μmである高精細なディスプレイを作製し、クロストークの有無を検証した結果を示す。
参考例として、電子リレー層の有無に対する発光素子の特性変化を検証した結果を示す。当該検証結果を参考例とした理由は、本発明の構成をすべて満たす発光素子における検証ではないためである。しかし、当該検証結果は本発明の構成を有する発光素子においても十分に適用できる結果であることは、当業者であれば充分に理解できることである。
上記実施例1で用いた4−フェニル−4’−(9−フェニルフルオレン−9−イル)トリフェニルアミン(略称:BPAFLP)の合成方法について具体的に説明する。BPAFLPの構造を以下に示す。
100mL三口フラスコにて、マグネシウムを1.2g(50mmol)減圧下で30分加熱撹拌し、マグネシウムを活性化させた。これを室温に冷まして窒素雰囲気にした後、ジブロモエタン数滴を加えて発泡、発熱するのを確認した。ここにジエチルエーテル10mL中に溶かした2−ブロモビフェニル12g(50mmol)をゆっくり滴下した後、2.5時間加熱還流撹拌してグリニヤール試薬とした。
100mL三口フラスコへ、9−(4−ブロモフェニル)−9−フェニルフルオレンを3.2g(8.0mmol)、4−フェニル−ジフェニルアミンを2.0g(8.0mmol)、ナトリウム tert−ブトキシドを1.0g(10mmol)、ビス(ジベンジリデンアセトン)パラジウム(0)を23mg(0.04mmol)加え、フラスコ内の雰囲気を窒素置換した。この混合物へ、脱水キシレン20mLを加えた。この混合物を、減圧下で攪拌しながら脱気した後、トリ(tert−ブチル)ホスフィン(10wt%ヘキサン溶液)0.2mL(0.1mmol)を加えた。この混合物を、窒素雰囲気下、110℃で2時間加熱撹拌し、反応させた。
本参考例では、実施例1で使用した2−[4−(ジベンゾチオフェン−4−イル)フェニル]−1−フェニル−1H−ベンゾイミダゾール(略称:DBTBIm−II)の合成方法について説明する。DBTBIm−IIの構造式を以下に示す。

Claims (22)
- 陽極と陰極の間にn(nは2以上の自然数)層のEL層を有し、
前記陽極からm(mは自然数、1≦m≦n−1)番目のEL層とm+1番目のEL層の間に、第1の層及び第2の層を有し、
前記第1の層は、前記m+1番目のEL層と前記第2の層との間に接して設けられ、
前記第2の層は、前記第1の層と前記m番目のEL層との間に接して設けられ、
前記m番目のEL層は、少なくとも、発光層と、前記第2の層と接する電子輸送層とを含み、
前記第1の層は、正孔輸送性を有する第1の物質及び正孔輸送性を有する第1の物質に対するアクセプター性物質を含み、
前記第2の層は、電子輸送性を有する第2の物質を含み、
前記電子輸送層は電子輸送性を有する第3の物質及びアルカリ土類金属を含み、
前記アルカリ土類金属は、前記電子輸送層において、前記第2の層と接する界面から陽極側に向かってその濃度が低くなる濃度勾配を有する発光素子。 - 陽極と陰極の間にn(nは2以上の自然数)層のEL層を有し、
前記陽極からm(mは自然数、1≦m≦n−1)番目のEL層とm+1番目のEL層の間に、第1の層及び第2の層を有し、
前記第1の層は、前記m+1番目のEL層と前記第2の層との間に接して設けられ、
前記第2の層は、前記第1の層と前記m番目のEL層との間に接して設けられ、
前記m番目のEL層は、少なくとも、発光層と、前記第2の層と接する電子輸送層とを含み、
前記第1の層は、正孔輸送性を有する第1の物質及び正孔輸送性を有する第1の物質に対するアクセプター性物質を含み、
前記第2の層は、電子輸送性を有する第2の物質及び電子輸送性を有する第2の物質に対するドナー性物質を含み、
前記電子輸送層は電子輸送性を有する第3の物質及びアルカリ土類金属を含み、
前記アルカリ土類金属は、前記電子輸送層において、前記第2の層と接する界面から陽極側に向かってその濃度が低くなる濃度勾配を有する発光素子。 - 請求項2において、前記ドナー性物質が、アルカリ金属、アルカリ土類金属、希土類金属、アルカリ金属化合物、アルカリ土類金属化合物または希土類金属の化合物である発光素子。
- 請求項2又は請求項3において、前記第2の層の膜厚は、1nm以上10nm以下であることを特徴とする発光素子。
- 請求項2又は請求項3において、前記第2の層は前記第2の物質に対して質量比で、0.001以上0.1以下の比率でドナー性物質が含まれていることを特徴とする発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一項に記載の発光素子において、
前記第2の物質のLUMO準位が、−5.0eV以上−3.0eV以下である発光素子。 - 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一項において、前記第2の物質はペリレン誘導体または含窒素縮合芳香族化合物であることを特徴とする発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一項において、前記第2の物質は、下記構造式で示されるフタロシアニン系材料のいずれかであることを特徴とする発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一項において、前記第2の物質は、金属−酸素結合と芳香族配位子を有する金属錯体であることを特徴とする発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項5のいずれか一項において、前記第2の物質は、金属−酸素の二重結合を有する金属錯体であることを特徴とする発光素子。
- 請求項9又は請求項10において、前記金属錯体がフタロシアニン系材料である発光素子。
- 請求項11において、前記フタロシアニン系材料が下記構造式で示される物質のいずれかである発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項12のいずれか一において、前記電子輸送層に含まれるアルカリ土類金属が、カルシウム、ストロンチウム又はバリウムである発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項12のいずれか一において、前記電子輸送層に含まれるアルカリ土類金属が、カルシウムである発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項14のいずれか一において、前記アクセプター性物質は、遷移金属酸化物または元素周期表における第4族乃至第8族に属する金属の酸化物である発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項14のいずれか一において、前記アクセプター性物質は、酸化モリブデンである発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項16のいずれか一において、前記第1の層は、前記第1の物質を含む層と、前記アクセプター性物質を含む層とが積層されてなる構造を有する発光素子。
- 請求項1乃至請求項17のいずれか一項に記載の発光素子を複数用いて作製された発光装置。
- 請求項18において、前記発光素子はマトリクス状に配置されており、
隣り合う前記発光素子における発光領域間の距離が3μm以上40μm以下である発光装置。 - 請求項18において、前記発光素子はマトリクス状に配置されており、
隣り合う前記発光素子における発光領域間の距離が5μm以上30μm以下である発光装置。 - 請求項18乃至請求項20のいずれか一項に記載の発光装置を含むディスプレイ。
- 請求項18乃至請求項20のいずれか一項に記載の発光装置を含む電子機器。
