Abstract
【解決手段】OCBモードの液晶表示装置であって、遮光層、第1カラーフィルタ層、及び、オーバーコート層を含み、第1柱状スペーサの直上に形成された第1台座の高さと、遮光層、第2カラーフィルタ層、及び、オーバーコート層を含み、第2柱状スペーサの直上に形成された第2台座の高さとは略同等であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。

Description
アクティブエリアに配置された第1画素電極及び第1柱状スペーサと、アクティブエリアを囲む遮光エリアに配置された第2画素電極及び第2柱状スペーサと、を備えた第1基板と、アクティブエリアにおいて前記第1柱状スペーサの直上を通る帯状に形成されるとともに前記第2柱状スペーサの直上を含む遮光エリアにわたって延在した遮光層と、前記第1柱状スペーサの直上で前記遮光層に交差する第1カラーフィルタ層と、前記第2柱状スペーサの直上で前記遮光層の上に配置された帯状の第2カラーフィルタ層と、前記第1柱状スペーサの直上を含むアクティブエリア及び前記第2柱状スペーサの直上を含む遮光エリアにわたって延在したオーバーコート層と、前記オーバーコート層上に配置され前記第1画素電極及び前記第2画素電極と対向する対向電極と、を備えた第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に保持された液晶層と、を具備するOCBモードの液晶表示装置であって、前記遮光層、前記第1カラーフィルタ層、及び、前記オーバーコート層を含み、前記第1柱状スペーサの直上に形成された第1台座の高さと、前記遮光層、前記第2カラーフィルタ層、及び、前記オーバーコート層を含み、前記第2柱状スペーサの直上に形成された第2台座の高さとは略同等であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置が提供される。
このようなマルチギャップ構造を採用したことにより、各色画素においてリタデーションを最適化することができ、良好な表示品位を得ることが可能となる。

Claims (5)
- アクティブエリアに配置された第1画素電極及び第1柱状スペーサと、アクティブエリアを囲む遮光エリアに配置された第2画素電極及び第2柱状スペーサと、を備えた第1基板と、
アクティブエリアにおいて前記第1柱状スペーサの直上を通る帯状に形成されるとともに前記第2柱状スペーサの直上を含む遮光エリアにわたって延在した遮光層と、前記第1柱状スペーサの直上で前記遮光層に交差する第1カラーフィルタ層と、前記第2柱状スペーサの直上で前記遮光層の上に配置された帯状の第2カラーフィルタ層と、前記第1柱状スペーサの直上を含むアクティブエリア及び前記第2柱状スペーサの直上を含む遮光エリアにわたって延在したオーバーコート層と、前記オーバーコート層上に配置され前記第1画素電極及び前記第2画素電極と対向する対向電極と、を備えた第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に保持された液晶層と、を具備するOCBモードの液晶表示装置であって、
前記遮光層、前記第1カラーフィルタ層、及び、前記オーバーコート層を含み、前記第1柱状スペーサの直上に形成された第1台座の高さと、前記遮光層、前記第2カラーフィルタ層、及び、前記オーバーコート層を含み、前記第2柱状スペーサの直上に形成された第2台座の高さとは略同等であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1台座を成す前記遮光層上の前記第1カラーフィルタ層の膜厚は、前記第2台座を成す前記遮光層上の前記第2カラーフィルタ層の膜厚よりも薄く、しかも、
前記第1台座を成す前記第1カラーフィルタ層上の前記オーバーコート層の膜厚は、前記第2台座を成す前記第2カラーフィルタ層上の前記オーバーコート層の膜厚よりも厚いことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1カラーフィルタ層と交差する前記遮光層の幅は、前記第2カラーフィルタ層の幅よりも太いことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1カラーフィルタ層及び前記第2カラーフィルタ層は、緑色であることを特徴とする請求項1乃至3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1カラーフィルタ層は緑色であり、
さらに、前記第1カラーフィルタ層よりも薄い膜厚の赤色の第3カラーフィルタ層と、第1カラーフィルタ層よりも厚い膜厚の青色の第4カラーフィルタ層とを備えたことを特徴とする請求項1乃至4のいずれか1項に記載の液晶表示装置。
