Abstract
【解決手段】走査線5、信号線7、および電源線9などの配線を覆う絶縁膜上に画素電極11が設けられ、この画素電極との間に液晶層を挟持して共通電極が設けられた液晶表示装置である。そして特に、各画素電極11は、枠状の連結電極11aを有し、その枠内に連結電極11aに接続支持された電極部11bを平行に配列してなる。また連結電極11aは、走査線5、信号線7、および電源線9上に重ねて配置される。

[液晶表示装置の回路構成]
図1は、実施形態の液晶表示装置1の回路構成の一例を示す図である。先ずこの図に基づいて、液晶表示装置1の回路構成を説明する。
図2は、第1実施形態の液晶表示装置1のレイアウトの一例を示す図であり、水平方向に3画素、垂直方向に2つのサブ画素で構成された1画素の合計3画素分を示している。さらに図3は、図2におけるA−A’断面に対応する概略断面構成図である。尚、図1と同一の構成要素には同一の符号を付している。
図5は、第2実施形態の液晶表示装置1aの特徴部のレイアウトの一例を示す図であり、水平方向に3画素、垂直方向に2つのサブ画素で構成された1画素の合計3画素分を示している。この図に示す本第2実施形態の液晶表示装置1aが、第1実施形態の表示装置と異なるところは、一部の画素電極11の連結電極11aを、配線5,7,9に重ね合わせない点にあり、他の構成は同様である。
図6には、本発明に適用される画素電極の変形例を示す各平面図である。
以上説明した本発明に係る液晶表示装置は、図7〜図12に示す様々な電子機器の表示部に表示パネルとして用いることができる。例えば、デジタルカメラ、ノート型パーソナルコンピュータ、携帯電話等の携帯端末装置、ビデオカメラなど、電子機器に入力された映像信号や電子機器内で生成した映像信号を、画像として表示するあらゆる分野の電子機器の表示部に適用することが可能である。以下に、本発明が適用される電子機器の一例について説明する。

- 枠状の連結電極の枠内に当該連結電極に接続支持された電極部を平行に配列してなる複数の画素と、
前記複数の画素電極に対して絶縁性を保って設けられた共通電極とを備えた
液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素電極を駆動するための薄膜トランジスタに接続された配線が、前記共通電極との間に前記画素電極を挟んだ位置に絶縁膜を介して配置され、
前記配線に重ねて前記画素電極の連結電極が配置されている
