Abstract
【解決手段】バイポーラ電池は、正のモノポーラ電極ユニット、負のモノポーラ電極ユニット、その間に積み重ねられる少なくとも1つのバイポーラ電極ユニット、各隣接する電極ユニットを隔てる電解質層、および、それに隣接する電極ユニットと共同して電解質層の周囲にシールを作り出すための、各電解質層の周囲に位置付けられるガスケットを有する。バイポーラ電池はまた、ガスケットによって作り出されるシールを維持するための、包装部を有する。

Description
本出願は、米国特許仮出願第60/677,512号(2005年5月3日出願)の利益を主張し、該特許仮出願はその全体が、本明細書において参考として援用される。
本発明は概して電池に関し、特に、シール性が改良されたバイポーラ電池に関する。
本発明は、さらに以下の手段を提供する。

正のモノポーラ電極ユニットと、
負のモノポーラ電極ユニットと、
該正の電極ユニットと該負の電極ユニットとの間に積み重ねられる少なくとも1つのバイポーラ電極ユニットと、
各対の隣接する電極ユニットの間に提供される電解質層と、
該電解質層のそれぞれの周囲に位置付けられるガスケットと、
を備える、バイポーラ電池であって、
該電解質層のそれぞれは、そのぞれぞれのガスケットおよびそのそれぞれの対になった隣接する電極ユニットによってシールされる、
バイポーラ電池。

正の端子電極層上に正の活性物質を有する正のモノポーラユニット(MPU)と、
負の端子電極層上に負の活性物質を有する負のMPUと、
該正のMPUと該負のMPUとの間に実質的に垂直に積み重なって配置される、少なくとも1つのバイポーラユニット(BPU)であって、各BPUは、
2つの側面を有するバイポーラ電極層と、
該バイポーラ電極層の第一側面上の正の活性物質と、
該バイポーラ電極層の第二側面上の負の活性物質と、
を備える、BPUと、
該実質的に垂直に隣接するポーラユニットのそれぞれの間に位置付けられる、電解質材料を有する電解質層であって、該電解質層は、その間に該電解質層が位置付けられる隣接するポーラユニットの、該電極層を電気的に分離するバリア材料、をさらに備える、電解質層と、
各電解質層の実質的周囲に位置付けられるシールリングと、
を備える、バイポーラ電池であって、
該ポーラユニット、該電解質層、および該シールリングは、該正のMPUが構造の一方の端に位置付けられかつ該負のMPUが構造の反対側の端に位置付けられるスタック構造として配置され、かつ、締め付け力が該スタック構造に加えられ、該電解質層、少なくとも1つのポーラユニットの該正の活性物質、および隣接するポーラユニットの該負の活性物質の実質的周囲に該シールリングを位置付けさせ、該電解質材料をシールする、
