HIC(d)=0.75446×HIC+166.4
に従ってHIC(d)を計算する。上記式中HICは、
気泡ポリマー例1は、密度約29.5 kg/m2のStyrofoam(商標) Freezermate(商標)として知られる商業的に入手可能なポリスチレン発泡体から調製される。この製品は、発泡性塊を単一ダイを通して押出すことにより調製されている。その連続気泡含有率は5%未満である。この製品は、圧縮強度が鉛直方向(押出されたときに発泡体が隆起する方向)において最大であるように構成されている。CE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTは、この製品ではそれぞれ0.198、0.568、及び0.234であることが測定される。E、V及びHは、それぞれ押出し、鉛直、及び水平方向である。
気泡ポリマー例3は、Styrofoam(商標) 40 HLとして販売されている商業的に入手可能なポリスチレン発泡体から調製される。この製品は、発泡性塊を単一ダイを通して押出すことにより調製されている。気泡ポリマー例3は、密度が約30.4 kg/m2であり、連続気泡含有率が5%未満である。CE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTは、この製品ではそれぞれ0.278、0.447、及び0.271である。E、V及びHは、それぞれ押出し、鉛直、及び水平方向である。この製品は、気泡ポリマー例1よりも配向性がいくらか低い。この製品は、気泡ポリマー例1又は2よりも気泡が若干大きい。
気泡ポリマー例4-19及び比較試料A、B及びCは、下記表に記載されているような種々の配向型発泡体から調製される。気泡ポリマー例4〜19はすべて、発泡性塊を単一ダイを通して押出すことにより調製されたポリスチレン発泡体である。3つの直交方向(押出し、鉛直、及び水平方向)における圧縮強度に関して、全ての例及び比較試料を評価する。これらの値の最高値を配向度とともに表に示す。密度及びHIC(d)の値も例1と同様に測定し、これらの値は表に報告した通りであり、この場合HIC(d)値は、受動的なエネルギー吸収対応手段の不存在において1,430のBIW HIC(d)値を示すプロトタイプ取付具に対して測定される。

気泡ポリマー例21は、約85重量%のスチレンと15重量%のアクリロニトリルとのランダムコポリマーの押出し型発泡体である。押出し条件は、押出し方向に対して直交する方向に伸長された主に独立した気泡を生成するように選択される。押出し方向における平均気泡サイズは0.27 mmである。気泡ポリマー例21のコア密度は25.0 kg/m2である。この発泡体のCV/CTは約77.4である。
Claims (65)
- 乗物のための衝撃吸収部材であって、該衝撃吸収部材は、使用中に該衝撃吸収部材を永久変形させるのに十分な衝撃力を吸収することが予想されており、該衝撃吸収部材は、密度が2.5ポンド/立方フィート以下のエネルギー吸収性気泡ポリマーを含み、該気泡ポリマーは、CE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTによって表される異方性挙動を示し、CE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTのうちの少なくとも1つの値は、0.40〜0.80であり、CE、CV及びCHは、3つの直交方向E、V及びHのそれぞれにおける該発泡体の圧縮強度をそれぞれ表し、そしてCTは、CE、CV及びCHの和を表す。
- CE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTのうちの少なくとも1つの値が、少なくとも0.45である請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- CE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTのうちの少なくとも1つの値が、少なくとも0.50である請求項2に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーが、押出し方向において発泡性樹脂混合物から成る単一の連続塊を押出すことにより形成される請求項1から3までのいずれか一項に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該方向Eが、押出し方向を表し、そしてCV/CT及びCH/CTのうちの少なくとも一方が、CE/CTよりも大きい請求項4に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- Vが、該気泡ポリマーが押出された後の該気泡ポリマーの鉛直膨張方向を表し、そしてCV/CTが、少なくとも0.50である請求項5に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーの連続気泡含有率が、少なくとも10 %である請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーが、最大次元において0.9〜3 mmの平均気泡サイズ気泡を有している請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーが、ポリスチレン、又はスチレンもしくはアクリロニトリルのコポリマーである請求項3に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーが、60%歪みにおいて少なくとも80%の圧縮効率を示す請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーが、3〜10%歪みの弾性限度を示す請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーが、最高圧縮強度の方向が予想衝撃方向に向けられるように配向されている請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 自動車のヘッドライナー対応手段である請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- CE、CV及びCHのうちの最大のものが、25%歪みにおいて290〜600 kPaである請求項13に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 受動的なエネルギー吸収対応手段無しに、約1,430の(BIW)HIC(d)値を示すシート状金属取付具に対してFMVSS 201Uに従って計算した時、該気泡ポリマーが、公称厚25ミリメートルで800未満のHIC(d)値を示す請求項14に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーの密度が、1.5〜2.35ポンド/立方フィート(24〜35.2 kg/m3)である請求項15に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 骨盤用ボルスターである請求項1に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- CE、CV及びCHのうちの最大のものが、25%歪みにおいて150〜900 kPaである請求項17に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 該気泡ポリマーの密度が、1.5〜4ポンド/立方フィート(24〜64 kg/m3)である請求項18に記載の衝撃吸収部材。

- 動的衝撃用途のための衝撃吸収部材であって、該衝撃吸収部材は、使用中に該衝撃吸収部材を永久変形させるのに十分な衝撃力を吸収することが予想されており、該衝撃吸収部材は気泡ポリマーを含み、該気泡ポリマーは、(1)押出し方向において発泡性樹脂混合物から成る単一の連続塊を押出すことにより、(2)膨張性ポリマービードを膨張させることにより、又は(3)反応性発泡プロセスにおいて形成され、そして前記特定のジオメトリーに成形され、さらに該気泡ポリマーは、CE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTによって表される異方性挙動を示し、CE、CV及びCHは、25%歪みまで歪み速度0.08 s-1で25〜50 mm厚の気泡ポリマー試料を圧縮することにより測定して、3つの直交方向E、V及びHのそれぞれにおける該気泡ポリマーの圧縮強度をそれぞれ表し、CTは、CE、CV及びCHの和を表し、そしてCE/CT、CV/CT及びCH/CTのうちの少なくとも1つの値は、0.40〜0.80である。

- 該気泡ポリマーが、3〜10%歪みの弾性限度を示す請求項45に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
- 自動車のヘッドライナー、ドアパネル、膝用ボルスター、ピラー、ヘッドレスト、背もたれ、積荷用床、又は計器盤である請求項49に記載の衝撃吸収部材。
