Abstract
【解決手段】導光板12aの内部を伝搬した紫外光は、プリズム12fでその向きが変えられて光出射面12cから液晶表示パネル11に出射される。液晶表示パネル11に入射した紫外光は、カラーフィルタ層26である可視変換層で可視光に変換される。カラーフィルタ層26に含まれる蛍光材料は、紫外光が照射されることにより可視の蛍光を発する。この可視光は、反射層25で反射されて液晶表示パネル11からフロントライト12の導光板12a及びカバー部材13を通って観察者14に視認される。紫外光の一部は、光出射面12cや液晶表示パネル11の表面で反射される光は、可視変換層を通らないので、可視領域外の光である。したがって、これらの反射光が観察者14に向けられても、観察者14はこの反射光を視認できない。

Description
(実施の形態1)
本実施の形態においては、表示装置の表示パネルが液晶表示パネルである場合について説明する。液晶表示パネルとしては、反射型又は半透過型液晶表示パネルを用いることができる。図1は、本発明の実施の形態1に係る液晶表示装置の概略構成を示す図であり、(a)は白表示の場合を説明するための図であり、(b)は黒表示の場合を説明するための図である。図1に示す液晶表示装置は、液晶表示パネル11と、その上に配置された面発光装置であるフロントライト12と、フロントライト12の上方に配置されたカバー部材13とから主に構成されている。
本実施の形態においては、表示装置の表示パネルが電子ペーパー用パネルである場合について説明する。なお、表示パネル以外の構成は実施の形態1と同様であるので、その詳細な構成を省略する。図3は、本発明の実施の形態2に係る表示装置の表示パネルである電子ペーパー用パネルの構成を示す図である

Claims (10)
- 表示パネル本体と、前記表示パネル本体に設けられ、光源からの紫外光を可視光に変換する可視光変換層と、を具備することを特徴とする表示パネル。
- 互いに対向する一対の主面と光源から光を入射する端面とを有し、前記一対の主面の一方の主面に複数のプリズムを有する導光板と、前記導光板の前記端面の近傍に配置され、紫外光を出射する光源と、前記導光板の一方又は他方の主面と対向するように配置された請求項1記載の表示パネルと、を具備することを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記光源は、約315nmから約500nmの範囲の波長を有する紫外光を発することを特徴とする請求項2記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示パネルが反射型又は半透過型液晶表示パネルであることを特徴とする請求項2又は請求項3記載の表示装置。
- カラーフィルタ層、平坦化層、及び反射層からなる群より選ばれた少なくとも一つが前記可視光変換層を兼ねることを特徴とする請求項2から請求項4のいずれかに記載の表示装置。
- 前記可視光変換層が蛍光材料を含むことを特徴とする請求項2から請求項5のいずれかに記載の表示装置。
- 前記表示パネルが電子ペーパー用パネルであることを特徴とする請求項2記載の表示装置。
- 前記可視光変換層が光を反射する粒子を含むことを特徴とする請求項7記載の表示装置。
- 前記粒子が蛍光材料を含むことを特徴とする請求項8記載の表示装置。
- 紫外線カット層が前記導光板の前記表示パネルに対向する主面の反対側の主面の上方に配置されていることを特徴とする請求項2から請求項9のいずれかに記載の表示装置。
