Abstract

Description
油溶性ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物は、好ましくはメチレン架橋アルキルフェノールである。油溶性ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物の存在は、濃縮物安定性を向上させる。
本発明の他の態様により、少なくとも一つの塩基性金属複合体及び少なくとも一つのヒドロキシル基又はアミノ基を有する少なくとも一つの有機摩擦調整剤の混合物を含む潤滑剤添加剤濃縮物の安定性を向上させる方法であって、その方法が前記濃縮物にヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物を添加することを含む前記方法を提供する。ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物は、好ましくはメチレン架橋アルキルフェノールである。
本発明の他の及びさらなる目的、利点及び特徴は、以下の詳述を参考に理解されるであろう。
フェノール及び硫化フェノールの金属塩を、好適な金属化合物、例えばオキシド又はヒドロキシドとの反応により製造し、中性又は過塩基性生成物を、当技術分野に公知の方法により得てもよい。硫化フェノールは、フェノールと硫黄又は硫黄含有化合物、例えば硫化水素、硫黄一ハロゲン化物又は硫黄二ハロゲン化物との反応により製造され、一般的に、2つ以上のフェノールが硫黄含有架橋により架橋される化合物の混合物である生成物を形成してもよい。
油溶性サリチル酸における好ましい置換基は、アルキル置換基である。アルキル-置換サリチル酸において、好都合には、アルキル基の炭素数は、5〜100、好ましくは9〜30、具体的には14〜20である。一つより多いアルキル基がある場合、全てのアルキル基中の平均炭素数は、適切な油溶性を確実にするために好ましくは少なくとも9である。
潤滑剤添加剤濃縮物中の有機摩擦調整剤との相互作用は、金属複合体の金属がカルシウムである場合に特に激しい。さらに、有機摩擦調整剤との相互作用は、スルホネート清浄剤及びスルホネート界面活性剤を含む複合体清浄剤を含む濃縮物においてより明らかである。従って、好ましい態様において、塩基性金属複合体は、カルシウム過塩基性清浄剤又は過塩基性スルホネート又はスルホネート含有複合体清浄剤、より好ましくは過塩基性カルシウムスルホネート又はスルホネート含有複合体清浄剤である。
ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物は、MALDI-TOF(Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-飛行時間型)質量分析計により測定した場合、質量平均分子量(Mw)は、600〜4000、好ましくは800〜3500、より好ましくは1000〜2000、さらにより好ましくは1200〜1900、最も好ましくは1400〜1750である。
塩基性触媒を使用できるが、酸触媒が好ましい。酸触媒は、多様な酸性化合物、例えば、リン酸、硫酸、スルホン酸、シュウ酸及び塩酸から選択されてもよい。また、酸は、酸処理クレーのような固形材料の成分として存在してもよい。使用される触媒の量は、全反応混合物の0.05〜10質量%以上、例えば0.1〜1質量%で変えてもよい。
ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物は、好ましくは、濃縮物の質量をベースとして約2〜20質量%、好ましくは約5〜15質量%、より好ましくは約10〜12質量%の量において添加剤濃縮物中に存在する。
好ましくは、有機摩擦調整剤及びヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物は、有機摩擦調整剤の質量%対ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物の質量%の比、約1:3〜約1:7、より好ましくは約1:1.5〜約1:3.5、最も好ましくは約1:1〜約1:2.5を提供する量において存在する。従って、少なくとも3質量%の有機摩擦調整剤を含有する濃縮物は、最低約9〜約21質量%のヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物を好ましく含有する。
濃縮物が油性であるために、添加剤は、油性キャリヤーにおいて溶液中にあってもよいか又はそのようなキャリヤーは別々に提供されてもよいか又はその両方である。好適なキャリヤーの例は、潤滑粘性油であり、例えば、以下に詳細に記載するように、脂肪族、ナフテン及び芳香族炭化水素である。
天然油としては、動物油及び植物油(例えば、ヒマシ油、ラード油);パラフィン、ナフテン及びパラフィン-ナフテン混合型の液体石油及び水素化精製、溶媒処理又は酸処理鉱物油が挙げられる。石炭又は頁岩から誘導される潤滑粘性油は、また、有用なベース油として使用される。
アルキレンオキシドポリマー及びインターポリマー及びそれらの誘導体であって、末端ヒドロキシル基がエステル化、エーテル化等により改質されたものは、他の部類の公知の合成潤滑油を構成する。これらは、エチレンオキシド又はプロピレンオキシドのポリマー化により製造されるポリオキシアルキレンポリマー、及びポリオキシアルキレンポリマーのアルキル及びアリールエーテル(例えば、分子量1000のメチル-ポリイソプロピレングリコールエーテル又は分子量1000〜1500のポリ-エチレングリコールのジフェニルエーテル);及びそれらのモノ-及びポリカルボン酸エステル、例えば酢酸エステル、テトラエチレングリコールの混合C3-C8脂肪酸エステル及びC13オキソ酸ジエステルにより例証される。
潤滑粘性油は、群I、群II、群III、群IV又は群V油又は前記油のブレンドを含んでいてもよい。また、潤滑粘性油は、群I油と群II、群III、群IV又は群V油の一つ以上とのブレンドを含んでもよい。
a) 群I油は、飽和物含量が90%未満であり、及び/又は硫黄含量が0.03%より高く、また、粘度指数は、80以上120未満であり、これは表1に明記した試験方法による。
b) 群II油は、飽和物含量が90%以上であり、硫黄含量が0.03%以下であり、また、粘度指数は、80以上120未満であり、これは表1に明記した試験方法を使用している。APIにより確認された群と離れるものではないが、約110より高い粘度指数の群II油は、「群II+」油とよく呼ばれる。
c) 群III油は、飽和物含量が90%以上であり、硫黄含量が0.03%以下であり、また、粘度指数は、120以上であり、これは表1に明記した試験方法を使用している。
d) 群IV油は、ポリαオレフィン(PAO)である。
e) 群V油は、群I、II、III又はIVに含まれない他の全てのベースストックである。
好ましくは、潤滑粘性油の揮発度は、Noack試験により測定した場合(ASTM D5880)、約40質量%以下、例えば約35質量%以下、好ましくは、約32質量%以下、例えば約28質量%以下、より好ましくは約16質量%以下である。好ましくは潤滑粘性油の粘度指数(VI)は、少なくとも85、好ましくは少なくとも100、最も好ましくは約105〜140である。
無灰分散剤は、摩耗又は燃焼の間、油の酸化から生じるサスペンジョン油不溶物から守る。それらは、スラッジの沈殿及びワニスの形成の予防に、特にガソリンエンジンにおいて特に好都合である。
泡のコントロールは、ポリシロキサンタイプの消泡剤、例えばシリコン油又はポリジメチルシロキサンにより提供され得る。
幾つかの上記添加剤は、複数の作用を提供し、従って、例えば、一つの添加剤が、分散剤-酸化防止剤として作用してもよい。このアプローチは、公知であり、ここにさらに詳述する必要はない。
配合されたクランク室潤滑剤に使用した時の、そのような追加の添加剤の典型的な有効量を、以下に示す:

合成例A
ヘプタン中に希釈したノニルフェノール(10.5モル)を、スルホン酸触媒を使用して水中のホルムアルデヒド(9.0モル)と反応させた。試薬を5Lフラスコに充填し、窒素下、100℃に加熱した。希釈油の添加後、水及びヘプタンを、温度が150℃に到達するまで留去した。その後、反応混合物を真空下で分離し、残留溶媒を除去し、最終生成物を精製した。使用した試薬の量を表3に提供した。
比較例1
300TBNのカルシウムスルホネート清浄剤、C8ヒンダードフェノール抗酸化剤(Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corporationの製品、商品名Irganox L135)、他の従来の添加剤(分散剤、ZDDP、アミン性抗酸化剤、モリブデンベース耐磨耗剤、消泡剤)、希釈油及び増加量の有機摩擦調整剤(エトキシル化獣脂アミン(ETA)及びグリセロールモノオレート(GMO))を含有する従来の添加物濃縮物を、表4に示すように製造した(量は質量%により表した)。
合成例Aのメチレン架橋アルキルフェノール(MBAP)をIrganox L135ヒンダードフェノール抗酸化剤の代わりに用い、本発明の添加剤濃縮物を表5に示すように製造した(量は質量%として表す)。混合方法及び順序は、比較例1の濃縮物を形成するために使用したものと同様であった(高温での分散剤及び清浄剤の予混合、その後、低温における他の添加剤と予混合した清浄剤/分散剤との混合)。

- 潤滑油添加剤濃縮物であって、潤滑粘性油、塩基性金属複合体、油溶性ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物、及び前記濃縮物の全質量をベースとして少なくとも1.7質量%の、少なくとも一つのヒドロキシル基又はアミノ基を含有する有機摩擦調整剤を含むことを特徴とする前記潤滑油添加剤濃縮物。
- 式中、nが3〜6であり;Yが炭素数1〜4のヒドロカルビル基であり;またRが炭素数9〜15のヒドロカルビル基である、請求項2に記載の濃縮物。
- 前記濃縮物の全質量をベースとして、前記油溶性ヒドロカルビルフェノールアルデヒド縮合物約2質量%〜約20質量%を含む、請求項1、2又は3のいずれか1項に記載の濃縮物。
