Abstract
【解決手段】 光源として、3波長以上の光を発光する3波長蛍光ランプからなる主白色光源21と、ピーク波長λprがλpr=645nmである赤色光を発光する赤色発光ダイオード22R、ピーク波長λpgがλpg=555nmである緑色光を発光する緑色発光ダイオード22G及びピーク波長λpbがλpb=440nmである青色光を発光する青色発光ダイオード22Bを少なくとも1種類以上含む補助光源22とを有することで実現する。

Description
実施例1では、補助光源22を構成する赤色発光ダイオード22R、緑色発光ダイオード22G及び青色発光ダイオード22Bのピーク波長をそれぞれ適切に選択することで主白色光源21をアシストし、カラー液晶表示装置100の色再現範囲が、sRGB規格の色再現範囲を完全にカバーしつつ、さらに広色域となるようにする。
図11に示すスペクトル特性のCCFLのみを光源として使用した場合、図12bで示したように、緑色(G)領域では、sRGB規格をカバーできず、色度点が青緑色側にずれてしまっていた。そこで、この色度点のずれをsRGB規格をカバーするように改善するには、CCFLの緑色光の輝線スペクトルBLgよりも長波長側でピークとなる緑色発光ダイオード22Gを補助光源22の一つとして用いればよい。
図11に示すスペクトル特性のCCFLのみを光源として使用した場合、図12cで示したように青色(B)領域では、sRGB規格をカバーするものの、色域が狭かった。
図11に示すスペクトル特性のCCFLのみを光源として使用した場合、図12dで示したように赤色(R)領域では、sRGB規格をカバーするものの、色域が狭かった。
上述した実施例1では、sRGB規格を完全にカバーしつつ、更なる色域の拡大を達成するために、主白色光源21の輝線スペクトルを改善するようなスペクトル特性の赤色発光ダイオード22R、緑色発光ダイオード22G、青色発光ダイオード22Bによりなる補助光源22を用いた。
Claims (3)
- 赤色光、緑色光、青色光を波長選択透過する3原色フィルタからなるカラーフィルタを備えた透過型のカラー液晶表示パネルと、上記カラー液晶表示パネルを背面側から白色光で照明するバックライト装置を備えるカラー液晶表示装置であって、
上記バックライト装置は、3波長以上の光を発光する3波長蛍光ランプからなる主白色光源と、ピーク波長λprがλpr=645nmである赤色光を発光する赤色発光ダイオード、ピーク波長λpgがλpg=555nmである緑色光を発光する緑色発光ダイオード及びピーク波長λpbがλpb=440nmである青色光を発光する青色発光ダイオードを少なくとも1種類以上含む補助光源とからなる光源と、
上記光源から発光された光を混色して上記白色光とする混色手段とを有すること
を特徴とするカラー液晶表示装置。 - 上記カラーフィルタは、透過波長帯域のピーク波長Fprが685nm≦Fpr≦690nmであり、青色フィルタの透過波長帯域における当該赤色フィルタの透過率をゼロとした赤色フィルタと、
透過波長帯域のピーク波長Fpgが530nmであり、青色フィルタの透過波長帯域における当該緑色フィルタの透過率を減少させることで、上記透過波長帯域の半値幅Fhwgを90nm≦Fhwg≦100nmとした緑色フィルタと、
透過波長帯域のピーク波長Fpbを440nm≦Fpb≦460nmとした青色フィルタとを有すること
を特徴とする請求項1記載のカラー液晶表示装置。 - 上記補助光源の発光強度は、上記主白色光源の発光強度の略20%であること
を特徴とする請求項1記載のカラー液晶表示装置。
