Abstract
Description
下記実施例のアルカリ金属塩化物水溶液の電解は、15個の電解セルから成る電解装置を使用して行った。それぞれの電解セルにおいて使用したカソードは、ガス拡散電極であり、そのガス拡散電極からイオン交換膜への距離は、3mmであり、イオン交換膜とガス拡散電極の間隙の長さは、206cmであった。利用したアノードは、酸化イリジウムルテニウムでコーティングされたチタンアノードであった。そのアノードの表面積は、2.5m2であった。使用したイオン交換膜は、デュポン(DuPont)社製のNafion(登録商標)NX981であった。アノード半要素から出る時の塩化ナトリウム溶液(NaCl)の濃度は、210g/lであった。カソード半要素における苛性ソーダ溶液(NaOH)の濃度は、30から33重量%の間であった。以下の実施例において、明確に述べられていない限り、電流密度は、2.45kA/m2であり、苛性ソーダ溶液の体積流量は、3m3/hであった。後者は、イオン交換膜とガス拡散電極の間隙における苛性ソーダ溶液の速度0.85cm/sに対応する。
上述の条件下、1.0m3/hのアノード半要素における塩化ナトリウム溶液の体積流量を選択した。流入時の塩化ナトリウム溶液の温度は、50℃であり、流出時は、85℃であった。従って、アノード半要素の流入と流出間の温度差は、35℃であった。その苛性ソーダ溶液を80℃の温度でカソード半要素に供給し、85℃の温度で再び排出した。電流収率は、96.20%と判定された。
上述の条件下、1.1m3/hのアノード半要素における塩化ナトリウム溶液の体積流量を選択した。流入時の塩化ナトリウム溶液の温度は、50℃であり、流出時は、86℃であった。従って、アノード半要素の流入と流出間の温度差は、36℃であった。その苛性ソーダ溶液を79℃の温度でカソード半要素に供給し、85℃の温度で再び排出した。電流収率は、96.09%と判定された。
上述の条件下、1.2m3/hのアノード半要素における塩化ナトリウム溶液の体積流量を選択した。流入時の塩化ナトリウム溶液の温度は、51℃であり、流出時は、85℃であった。従って、アノード半要素の流入と流出間の温度差は、34℃であった。その苛性ソーダ溶液を76℃の温度でカソード半要素に供給し、83℃の温度で再び排出した。電流収率は、96.11%と判定された。
上述の条件下、1.3m3/hのアノード半要素における塩化ナトリウム溶液の体積流量を選択した。流入時の塩化ナトリウム溶液の温度は、55℃であり、流出時は、86℃であった。従って、アノード半要素の流入と流出間の温度差は、31℃であった。その苛性ソーダ溶液を77℃の温度でカソード半要素に供給し、83℃の温度で再び排出した。電流収率は、95.63%と判定された。
上述の条件下、1.3m3/hのアノード半要素における塩化ナトリウム溶液の体積流量を選択した。電流密度は、2.5kA/m2であった。流入時の塩化ナトリウム溶液の温度は、85℃であり、流出時は、86℃であった。従って、アノード半要素の流入と流出間の温度差は、1℃であった。カソード半要素における苛性ソーダ溶液の体積流量は10.5m3/hであり、これは2.95cm/sのイオン交換膜とガス拡散電極の間隙における苛性ソーダ溶液の速度に対応するものであった。その苛性ソーダ溶液を80℃の温度でカソード半要素に供給し、86℃の温度で再び排出した。電流収率は、95.4%と判定された。
この場合、電流密度は、4kA/m2であった。2.08m3/hのアノード半要素における塩化ナトリウム溶液の体積流量を選択した。流入時の塩化ナトリウム溶液の温度は、77℃であり、流出時は、86℃であった。従って、アノード半要素の流入と流出間の温度差は、9℃であった。カソード半要素における苛性ソーダ溶液の体積流量は3m3/hであり、これは、0.85cm/sのイオン交換膜とガス拡散電極の間隙における苛性ソーダ溶液の速度に対応するものであった。その苛性ソーダ溶液を82℃の温度でカソード半要素に供給し、87℃の温度で再び排出した。電流収率は、96.1%と判定された。これは、本発明の方法が、より高い電流密度の時でさえ、良好な電流収率で操作できることを示している。
Claims (4)
- アノード半要素におけるアルカリ金属塩化物溶液の温度および/またはアノード半要素におけるアルカリ金属塩化物溶液の体積流量を、カソード半要素への入口でのアルカリ金属水酸化物溶液の温度とカソード半要素からの出口でのアルカリ金属水酸化物溶液の温度の差が15℃以下になるように定めることを特徴とする、カソード液としてアルカリ金属水酸化物、特に、水酸化ナトリウムの水溶液を用いる膜プロセスによるアルカリ金属塩化物、特に、塩化ナトリウムの水溶液の電解法。
- アノード半要素から出る時のアルカリ金属塩化物溶液の温度およびカソード半要素から出る時のアルカリ金属水酸化物溶液の温度が、80℃〜100℃、好ましくは、85℃〜95℃であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の方法。
- カソード半要素におけるアルカリ金属水酸化物溶液の流量が、1cm/s未満であることを特徴とする、請求項1および2のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
- 使用されるカソードが、ガス拡散電極であることを特徴とする、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の方法。
