本発明は、エレクトログラフィ式の印刷機または複写機における中間支持ベルトのためのプラスチック製のエンドレスベルトを製作する方法および装置に関する。

エレクトログラフィ式の印刷機または複写機では中間支持ベルトが使用され、これによって静電潜像を形成し、かつ/または転写しようとするトナー像のための支持体を提供することができる。たとえば中間支持ベルトとして、光導電性の層(感光層)を備えたエンドレスベルト、たとえばOPCベルト(organic-photo-conducting)が用いられ、このベルトは、所定の画像パターンに従って露光することによって、適当な静電的な電荷像、いわゆる電荷潜像を形成する。現像ステーションで、電荷潜像にトナー材料が付着され、このトナー像はあとで紙、または別の記録担体に転写され、そこで定着される。

エンドレスな中間支持ベルトは、転写ベルトとして、トナー像を集めてこれを転写箇所に送るのにも役立つ。たとえば多色刷り印刷では、第1のインキの第1のトナー像が中間支持ベルトに移される。次いでこの第1のトナー像に、第2のインキを有する第2のトナー像が移され、これが繰り返される。そのように中間支持ベルトに上下に重ねられた多色トナー像は、次いで転写箇所に送られ、そこで記録担体に転写して定着される。

エンドレスな中間支持ベルトを製作するために、プラスチック箔の両端部を相互結合する必要がある。この場合に生じる溶接シームは、多くの障害の原因となり得る。たとえば溶接シームに沿って生じる厚み部分によって、中間支持ベルトの回転走行に際して比較的高い摩耗が生じる。さらに溶接シームの領域における材料特性が変化し得るので、この領域は、一般的に光導電性の領域として、またはトナー像を受容するための領域として利用することはできない。

ドイツ連邦共和国特許出願公開第19832168号明細書から、レーザ光を用いて熱可塑性のプラスチックを溶接するための装置が公知である。熱可塑性のプラスチック箔の両端部は突き合わせ状態で配置され、かつ保持エレメントと石英ガラス板とを用いて保持されることができる。石英ガラス板を介してレーザ光が入力結合され、これによって両端部は互いに溶接される。均一な溶接シームを製作するための特別な手段については記載がない。

実際に国際公開第02/26476号パンフレットで記載された方法に基づいて溶接されたプラスチック箔はシーム領域で多くの場合変化された無定形構造を有しており、この無定形構造は、熱負荷下では原材料の構造よりも小さな引張り強さを有している。さらにこのような不均質としての無定形構造によって、シーム領域と原材料との間で負荷形成が生じ得る。溶接によって製作される中間支持ベルトがエレクトログラフィ式の印刷機または複写機に使用されると、この中間支持ベルトは高温度条件下で高い持続負荷にさらされる。シーム領域の無定形構造によってこのように製作された支持ベルトの耐用寿命が低下され得る。

したがって本発明の課題は、熱可塑性プラスチック製のエンドレスベルトを製作する方法および装置を改良して、エンドレスベルトの表面が僅かな摩耗で十分に使用でき、かつエンドレスベルトが負荷に対する高い耐久性を有しているようなものを提供することである。

図1の実施例では、熱可塑性のプラスチック箔10が、透過性の保持エレメント、たとえばガラス板11と、透過性の対抗保持エレメント、たとえば同様にガラス板12との間で、箔端部の端面側で正確に突き合わせられるように、挿入される。プラスチック箔10を固定するため、ならびに隆起していない平滑な溶接シームを確保するために押圧枠13,14が設けられており、これらの押圧枠13,14は所定の力Fをガラス板11,12に及ぼし、ひいてはプラスチック箔10に及ぼす。ガラス板11,12の、プラスチック箔10に接触するフラットな面は、フラットな押圧面11a,12aを形成する。選択的にこれらの押圧面11a,12aは、同心的に形成してよく、たとえば円筒面を成していてよい。つまり適当なガラス板は円筒外套部を成す。図平面に対して垂直方向で、プラスチック箔は、標準印刷サイズ、たとえばDIN−A4の最小幅を有している。ガラス板11,12は、この幅よりも大きな長さを有している。

図6の実施例では、吸収装置40,42は、吸収性の層62、有利にはそれぞれ約0.2〜3μmの厚さを有する、特に疎水性のDLC−層または硬質材料層から成っていて、かつ支持体として役立つ透過性のガラス板60に沿って設けられている。このガラス板60は同時に保持エレメント11,12の機能を引き受ける(図4参照)。吸収性の層62は、放射とは反対側で追加的に、有利には約0.5〜3μmの厚さを有する、非付着層64、特にDLC−コーティング、ナノコンポジット層、テフロンまたはシリコーンを備えることができる。これによって溶接過程の間のプラスチック箔10の付着が回避される。

本発明の方法および本発明の装置は、原則としてあらゆる熱可塑性プラスチックに用いることができる。場合によっては吸収しようとする放射の侵入深さを調整するための吸収性の添加物を有する、ポリエステル、ポリカーボネートまたはポリアミドを使用すると特に有利である。この場合ブラックカーボンを含んだポリアミドまたはポリカーボネートが有利である。箔厚さは、有利には50〜200μmである。

本発明の方法および本発明の装置は、エンドレスな光導電ベルト、いわゆるOPC−ベルト(organic-photo-conducting)ならびにエレクトログラフィ装置のための転写ベルトを製作するために用いられる。溶接シームは極めて均一で、かつプラスチック箔と同じ厚さを有している。これによって溶接シームの領域を潜像支持体またはトナー像支持体として利用することもできる。したがってこのように製作されたエンドレスベルトは比較的短い長さを有することができ、溶接シームの領域の損耗は低減され、またこのベルトは紙損失なくエンドレスペーパーに印刷を行うために使用することができる。

エンドレスベルトの端部を溶接するための記載の実施例では、材料として部分結晶質のプラスチック箔を用いることができる。この場合結合しようとするシート端部はたとえば2つのガラス板の間に位置する。溶融されるプラスチックの溶融段階からの冷却速度は、結晶化度に直接的に関連しており、この冷却速度は、プラスチック材料およびガラス板への熱導出によって特定される。したがって溶融される材料の領域における結晶化度は、主に熱伝導効率に関連していて、かつこれに影響を与えるのは困難である。

部分結晶質のプラスチック材料の熱溶接ひいては液化に際して、存在する結晶構造が破壊される。後続の冷却および凝固に際して、プラスチックに応じて、結晶構造は部分的にしか再形成されないか、または全く再形成されない。プラスチックの一例としてPETが挙げられ、その約40%の高い結晶化度は溶接領域でほぼゼロになるので、材料は無定形である。シーム領域で存在する無定形構造は、大幅に低下されたガラス転移温度を有している。これによって熱負荷下で引張り強さが小さくなる。

部分結晶質の熱可塑性プラスチックが用いられる場合、本発明に従って溶接のあとで再結晶化ステップが行われ、ここではシーム領域のプラスチック材料が再結晶化される。たとえば再結晶化ステップは、シーム領域のプラスチック材料の冷却段階を長くするような手段を有している。このことは比較的低い熱伝導性を有する材料を使用することによって得られる。別の可能性によれば、押圧面を形成する部分を、所定の時間比較的高い温度で保持するので、冷却プロセスが減速される。たとえば押圧面を形成する部分は、溶接前に加熱することができ、したがって溶接過程は追加的なエネルギ供給下で行うことができる。予備加熱に基づいて、冷却過程が減速されており、これによって再結晶化を行うことができる。

別の実施例によれば、再結晶下ステップの際にエネルギ供給が行われる。たとえばエネルギ供給は、所定の温度−時間線図を維持して行われる。

溶接後の結晶形成を促進する別の可能性によれば、一度または幾度か焼き戻しが行われる。シーム領域は、冷却後に少なくとも一度新たに行われるエネルギ供給によって、溶融温度を下回る温度で加熱される。この場合有利には所定の温度−時間線図が維持される。

有利にはエネルギ源によって溶接が行われ、このエネルギ源は再結晶化のためのエネルギ供給にも用いられる。たとえば帯状に拡開される定常レーザ光線を用いた、大面積の溶接では、レーザ光線は、プラスチック箔の端部を溶接したあとで、さらに低下出力でシーム領域に照射される。走査型の放射系では、溶接のためのビームの直後における追加的なビームが、追加的な放射源または同じ放射源から追加的なエネルギを、溶融段階のあとの冷却段階の間送ることができる。またたとえば遮蔽体、抵抗加熱素子、ペルティエ素子などによる、局所的な制限手段を有するたとえば熱放射器を別のエネルギ源として用いることもでき、このようなエネルギ源は、適当な形式で局所的なエネルギを、構造変化されるシーム領域に導入すことができる。たとえばプラスチック箔10の端部を溶接するために両側からビーム負荷を行う、図1に示した実施例では、再結晶化のための追加的なエネルギ導入を片側から行えば十分である。

焼き戻しによる熱処理のために、大面積で照射を行う熱放射器を用いることができる。熱放射は、同時に溶接シームの全長にわたって吸収される。この熱放射は遮蔽体および/または凹面鏡によって制限される。

非結晶質で不定形の熱可塑性プラスチックが用いられるか、または溶融状態からの冷却中に再び結晶化される熱可塑性プラスチックが用いられる場合、追加的な再結晶化ステップは省略することができる。

Claims (39)
- エレクトログラフィ式の印刷機または複写機における中間支持ベルトのためのプラスチック製のエンドレスベルトを製作する方法において、
少なくとも標準印刷サイズ幅を有する、部分結晶質で熱可塑性のプラスチック箔(10)の両端部を、互いに端面側で突き合わせ、
プラスチック箔(10)の両端部を、照射によって、溶接にとって必要な温度に加熱し、これらの端部を互いに溶接し、
溶接のあとで、再結晶化ステップを行い、プラスチック材料をシーム領域で再結晶化することを特徴とする、エレクトログラフィ式の印刷機または複写機における中間支持ベルトのためのプラスチック製のエンドレスベルトを製作する方法。 - 再結晶化ステップが、シーム領域におけるプラスチック材料の冷却段階を延長する手段を有する、請求項1記載の方法。
- 再結晶化ステップに際してエネルギ供給を行う、請求項1または2記載の方法。
- 所定の温度−時間線図を維持してエネルギ供給を行う、請求項3記載の方法。
- シーム領域を、冷却後に、少なくとも一度新たに行われるエネルギ供給によって、溶融温度を下回る温度で加熱する、請求項1から4までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 所定の温度−時間線図を維持する、請求項5記載の方法。
- 溶接を生ぜしめるエネルギ源を、再結晶化のためのエネルギ供給にも用いる、請求項1から6までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 再結晶化のためのエネルギ供給のために、追加的なエネルギ源を用いる、請求項1から7までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 端部の両側にそれぞれ1つの押圧面(11a,12a)を配置し、これらの押圧面(11a,12a)の長さが、少なくとも標準印刷サイズ幅に相当しており、前記押圧面が、端部の面を互いに押し合わせ、互いに押し合わされる端部の端面でプラスチック材料を溶融する際に、押圧面(11a,12a)の、冷間状態のプラスチック箔(10)の厚さによって特定される間隔を維持する、請求項1から8までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プラスチック箔(10)を、片側から照射して加熱する、請求項1から9までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プラスチック箔(10)を、両側から照射して加熱する、請求項1から10までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プラスチック箔(10)を、両側から同時に照射して加熱する、請求項1から11までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プラスチック箔(10)を、片側から照射して加熱し、次いでプラスチック箔(10)を裏返したあとで、別の片側から加熱する、請求項12記載の方法。
- プラスチック箔(10)の溶接を、レーザビームによって行う、請求項1から13までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 放射を、プラスチック箔(10)の、放射源(15,17)に向いた側で吸収する、請求項1から14までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プラスチック箔(10)の、向かい合った端部に、溶接の間プレロードをかける、請求項1から15までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 溶接過程の間、かつ/または再結晶化のためのエネルギ供給の間、プラスチック箔(10)を溶接シーム(19)で温度測定し、放射出力を、測定した温度に応じて調節するかまたは制御する、請求項1から16までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- プラスチック箔(10)を、片側から照射し、別の片側で、溶接しようとする端部の間のギャップを通過する放射を検出する、請求項1から17までのいずれか1項記載の方法。
- 押圧面(11a,12a)を、板(11,12)によって形成する、請求項1から18までのいずれか1項記載の方法。

- エレクトログラフィ式の印刷機または複写機における中間支持ベルトのためのプラスチック製のエンドレスベルトを製作する装置において、
少なくとも標準サイズの幅を有する、部分結晶質で熱可塑性のプラスチック箔(10)の両端部が、互いに端面側で突き合されるようになっており、
プラスチック箔(10)の両端部が、照射によって、溶接にとって必要な温度に加熱されて、これらの端部が互いに溶接されるようになっており、
溶接のあとで、プラスチック材料をシーム領域で再結晶化させる手段が設けられていることを特徴とする、エレクトログラフィ式の印刷機または複写機における中間支持ベルトのためのプラスチック製のエンドレスベルトを製作する装置。 - シーム領域におけるプラスチック材料の冷却段階を延長する手段が設けられている、請求項33記載の装置。
