Abstract
【解決手段】窒素原子を含有し、結晶構造がガーネット型構造である化合物に、付活剤Ln(ただし、LnはCe、Pr、Nd等)が含有されてなる蛍光体。金属化合物の混合物であって、焼成により窒素元素を含有しガーネット型構造を有する化合物からなる蛍光体となる混合物を、0.2MPa以上100MPa以下の圧力範囲内の窒素元素含有ガス雰囲気中において、1000℃以上2400℃以下の温度範囲で保持して焼成する蛍光体の製造方法。

Description
本発明の蛍光体は、窒素元素を含有するガーネット型構造を有する化合物に希土類元素からなる付活剤が含有されてなる。ガーネット型構造(柘榴石型構造)を有する化合物とは、柘榴石(式A3B2(SiO4)3において、Aは2価の金属イオンでCa、MgおよびFeからなる群から選ばれる一つ以上であり、Bは3価の金属イオンでAl、FeおよびCrからなる群より選ばれる1種以上である。)に代表される結晶構造と同形の結晶構造を有する化合物である。
1.5M1 2O3・2.5((M2 2O3)1-x・(M2N)2x) (1)
(式中のM1はY、Lu、Sc、La、GdおよびSmからなる群より選ばれる1種以上であり、M2はAl、GaおよびInからなる群より選ばれる1種以上であり、xは0より大きく0.6以下である。)で示される化合物に付活剤Ln(Lnは前記と同じ意味を有する。)が含有されてなる蛍光体が好ましい。ここで、M1としてはYが好ましく、M2としてはAlが好ましい。
本発明の蛍光体は、次のようにして製造することができるが、製造方法はこれに限定されるものではない。本発明の蛍光体は、ガーネット型構造を有する酸化物からなる蛍光体を、0.2MPa以上100MPa以下の圧力範囲内の窒素元素含有ガス雰囲気中において、1000℃以上2400℃以下の温度範囲で保持して焼成する第1の製造方法により製造することができる。
窒化物半導体からなる青色の発光素子の上に得られた蛍光体を塗布して発光させ、窒化物半導体からの光と蛍光体からの光の混色をLEDの発色とし、色彩を目視により判断した。
出発原料として粉末状のY3Al5O12:Ce((Y0.96Ce0.04)3Al5O12)2gを窒化ホウ素製のるつぼに入れ、これを黒鉛抵抗加熱方式の電気炉(富士電波工業株式会社製、ハイマルチ5000型)にセットした。拡散ポンプにより焼成雰囲気を真空とし、室温から800℃まで毎時500℃の速度で加熱し、800℃で純度が99.999体積%の窒素を導入して圧力を1MPa(10気圧)とした。引き続き、毎時500℃で1800℃まで昇温、1800℃で4時間保持、徐冷することで、濃黄色固体1.95gを得た。X線回折分析により、結晶構造がガーネット構造であることを確認した。発光スペクトルのピーク波長は545nmであった。図1に発光スペクトルを示した。比較例と比較し、緑色成分が減少し、赤色成分が増大した濃い黄色に発光し、これを用いて作製した白色LEDとしての発色は、純粋な白色であった。
得られた粉末の窒素含有量は、0.03質量%であった。(窒素がすべてYAG:Ceの結晶格子に取り込まれたと仮定すると、式(Y0.96Ce0.04)3Al5O11.98N0.01285で示される化合物となる(x=0.00257)。
実施例1の出発原料であるY3Al5O12:Ceの発光スペクトルのピーク波長は527nmであった。図1に発光スペクトルを示した。緑色成分が比較的多い黄色発光のため、LEDとしての発色は少し青みがかった白色であった。
実施例1の出発原料であるY3Al5O12:Ceを0.1MPa(1気圧)圧力の窒素雰囲気中において、1000℃で4時間保持して焼成し、黄色固体を得た。発光スペクトルピーク波長は出発原料と同じ527nmであった。この固体から窒素元素は検出されなかった。

- 窒素原子を含有し、結晶構造がガーネット型構造である化合物に、付活剤Ln(ただし、LnはCe、Pr、Nd、Eu、Tb、Dy、Ho、Er、Tm、YbおよびMnからなる群より選ばれる1種以上)が含有されてなることを特徴とする蛍光体。
- 窒素原子を含有し、結晶構造がガーネット型構造である化合物が、式1.5M1 2O3・2.5((M2 2O3)1-x・(M2N)2x)(ただし、式中のM1はY、Lu、Sc、La、GdおよびSmからなる群より選ばれる1種以上であり、式中のM2はAl、Ga、およびInからなる群より選ばれる1種以上であり、xは0より大きく0.6以下。)で表される化合物である請求項1記載の蛍光体。
- 付活剤LnがCe、Pr、Eu、TbおよびDyからなる群より選ばれる1種以上である請求項2記載の蛍光体。
- 付活剤LnがCeである請求項3記載の蛍光体。
- 請求項1から4のいずれかに記載の蛍光体を用いてなることを特徴とする白色LED。
- 金属化合物の混合物であって、焼成により窒素元素を含有しガーネット型構造を有する化合物からなる蛍光体となる混合物を、0.2MPa以上100MPa以下の圧力範囲内の窒素元素含有ガス雰囲気中において、1000℃以上2400℃以下の温度範囲で保持して焼成することを特徴とする蛍光体の製造方法。
