るユーザが、オンデマンドビデオサービスのメニューが提示される所定のチャン
ネルに、テレビを合わせる。このメニューが典型的には、コメディ映画の場合は
３０、アクション映画の場合は４０、子供向け映画の場合は５０というように、

た他のチャンネル（たとえばネットワーク放送チャンネルおよびケーブルチャン
ネル）の中に、単に追加のチャンネルとして対話型サービス（たとえばＧＡＭＥ
Ｓ、ＣＥＬＥＢＲＩＴＹ ＣＨＡＴ、ＪＵＫＥＢＯＸ、ＮＥＷＳ）をリスト表示

Claims (21)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 画面、リモートコントロール、および制御可能なビデオソー
    スからの入力を含むビデオシステムであって、前記システムがさらに、リモート
    コントロールに応答して前記ビデオソースに対する複数の制御を含むメニューを
    前記画面上に提示するユーザインターフェースを含み、前記メニューは第１の制
    御が起動すると消えるが、第２の制御が起動すると表示されたままであることを
    特徴とするビデオシステム。
  2. 【請求項２】 第２の制御がＰＡＵＳＥボタンであり、前記ＰＡＵＳＥボタ
    ンが起動されると前記メニューは前記画面上に表示されたままであることを特徴
    とする請求項１に記載のビデオシステム。
  3. 【請求項３】 第１の制御がＰＬＡＹボタンであり、前記ＰＬＡＹボタンが
    起動されると前記メニューは前記画面から消えるが、前記メニューを前記リモー
    トコントロールによって再度呼び出すことができることを特徴とする請求項１に
    記載のビデオシステム。
  4. 【請求項４】 ビデオエンターテイメントを提示する方法であって、 複数の視聴チャンネルを定義し、 前記チャンネルのうちいくつかのチャンネルで、テレビ番組を提示し、 前記チャンネルのうち少なくとも１つのチャンネルで、ビデオオンデマンドプ
    ログラミングを提供し、 ビデオオンデマンドプログラミングを、少なくともＰＬＡＹボタンおよびＳＴ
    ＯＰボタンまたはＰＡＵＳＥボタンを含む複数のボタンを有する画面上の制御パ
    ネルに関連してリモートコントロールで制御することを特徴とする方法。
  5. 【請求項５】 前記画面上の制御パネルボタンのうちの１つが起動されると
    、前記画面から前記制御パネルを消し、前記画面上の制御パネルボタンのうち第
    ２の１つが起動されると、前記画面上に前記制御パネルを表示されたままにする
    ことを含むことを特徴とする請求項４に記載の方法。
  6. 【請求項６】 ビデオオンデマンドシステムを操作する方法であって、 ユーザが要求したビデオプログラムを第１の伝送チャンネルを介して所定のク
    ライアント端末に伝送し、 視聴チャンネルを介して前記プログラムを前記端末のユーザに提示し、 ユーザ動作に応答して、前記伝送を中断し、 後続のユーザ動作に応答して、第１の伝送チャンネルとは異なる第２の伝送チ
    ャンネルを介して前記伝送を再開し、前記クライアント端末を自動的に再調整し
    て前記再開された伝送を前記視聴チャンネルを介して提示することを含み、 少ない伝送チャンネル資源を前記システムが管理してビデオオンデマンド送達
    でユーザが起動した中断を利用することを特徴とする方法。
  7. 【請求項７】 ユーザが前記クライアント端末を異なる視聴チャンネルに切
    り替えることに応答して、前記伝送を中断することを含むことを特徴とする請求
    項６に記載の方法。
  8. 【請求項８】 ユーザのＳＴＯＰまたはＰＡＵＳＥコマンドに応答して前記
    伝送を中断することを含むことを特徴とする請求項６に記載の方法。
  9. 【請求項９】 少なくともリモートビデオサーバに結合されたユーザ端末を
    含むビデオエンターテイメントシステムにおいて、 ビデオオンデマンドチャンネルとして少なくとも１つの視聴チャンネルを定義
    し、 前記システムを介して利用可能な電子プログラムガイドで、前記ビデオオンデ
    マンドチャンネルを識別し、 ユーザが前記ビデオオンデマンドチャンネルを選択すると、少なくとも１つの
    広告グラフィックならびに、 （ａ）起動されたときに、ビデオのトピック別リストを提示する第１の機能
    、および （ｂ）起動されたときに、少なくともタイトルおよび俳優別にビデオデータ
    ベースが検索できる第２の機能を含む、単一の画面ユーザインターフェースをユ
    ーザに提示することを特徴とする方法。
  10. 【請求項１０】 第２のユーザインターフェースをユーザに提供して、選択
    されたオンデマンドビデオを制御し、前記第２のユーザインターフェースが、少
    なくともＳＴＯＰ、ＰＬＡＹ、ＰＡＵＳＥ、ＲＥＷＩＮＤ、およびＦＡＳＴ Ｆ
    ＯＲＷＡＲＤ用の制御、ならびに前記選択されたオンデマンドビデオの残り時間
    表示を含むことを特徴とする請求項９に記載の方法。
  11. 【請求項１１】 ユーザがオンデマンドビデオを選択した後、前記選択され
    たビデオのタイトルが前記電子プログラムガイドに表示されることを特徴とする
    請求項９に記載の方法。
  12. 【請求項１２】 少なくともリモートビデオサーバに結合されたユーザ端末
    を含むビデオエンターテイメントシステムにおいて、 ビデオオンデマンドチャンネルとして少なくとも１つの視聴チャンネルを定義
    し、 前記ビデオオンデマンドチャンネルを介して送達されるビデオをユーザが選択
    し、 前記ユーザが選択したビデオを、前記システムを介して使用可能な電子プログ
    ラムガイドにリスト表示することを含むことを特徴とする方法。
  13. 【請求項１３】 ビデオエンターテイメントシステムを操作する方法であっ
    て、 少なくとも部分的に２つのビデオ視聴習慣に基づいたプロファイルを、複数ユ
    ーザ向けに生成し、 同様のプロファイルを有する他の視聴者が気に入っていることが明らかになっ
    た利用可能プログラムのリストを、第１の視聴者に提示することを含み、 前記システムが、同様の視聴者の好みに基づいて、他のプログラムを視聴者に
    提案することができることを特徴とする方法。
  14. 【請求項１４】 ビデオエンターテイメントを提示する方法であって、 複数の視聴チャンネルを定義し、 前記チャンネルのうちのいくつかで、テレビ番組を提示し、 前記チャンネルのうちの少なくとも１つで、対話型ビデオエンターテイメント
    を提供し、 対話型ビデオエンターテイメントチャンネルから切り替えたときに、前記対話
    型ビデオエンターテイメントチャンネルに関連付けられた状態情報を格納し、 その後、前記対話型ビデオエンターテイメントチャンネルに再度切り替えたと
    きに、前記状態情報を復元することを含み、 ユーザが、以前に開始された動作を、前記対話型ビデオエンターテイメントチ
    ャンネルで簡単に再開できることを特徴とする方法。
  15. 【請求項１５】 前記対話型ビデオエンターテイメントチャンネルがビデオ
    オンデマンドチャンネルを含み、前記状態情報が、ユーザが前記ビデオオンデマ
    ンドチャンネルから切り替えたポイントから前記ビデオオンデマンドエンターテ
    イメントを再開できるようにするポインタを含むことを特徴とする請求項１４に
    記載の方法。
  16. 【請求項１６】 前記ビデオオンデマンドを提示してクライアント端末で表
    示し、前記ポインタを前記クライアント端末の記憶装置に格納することを含むこ
    とを特徴とする請求項１５に記載の方法。
  17. 【請求項１７】 ビデオオンデマンドをビデオインフラストラクチャから前
    記クライアント端末に提供し、前記ポインタを前記クライアント端末から遠隔に
    ある前記ビデオインフラストラクチャの記憶装置に格納することを含むことを特
    徴とする請求項１５に記載の方法。
  18. 【請求項１８】 ビデオ入力、制御装置、および記憶装置を含むビデオシス
    テムを操作する方法であって、 ユーザの視聴習慣を監視して、お気に入りの放送ビデオプログラムを決定し、 前記ビデオプログラムが放送されているときにユーザが視聴していないと、前
    記ビデオプログラムを記憶装置にコピーすることを含み、 お気に入りのプログラムが放送されているときにユーザが視聴していなければ
    、同じものが自動的に記録されるので、ユーザは記録する前に計画を立てる必要
    がないことを特徴とする方法。
  19. 【請求項１９】 ユーザの視聴習慣を監視して、視聴した放送ビデオプログ
    ラムの順位を視聴頻度によって決定し、 前記順位に従って、放送されたときにユーザが視聴していない複数のプログラ
    ムを前記記憶装置にコピーすることを含むことを特徴とする請求項１８に記載の
    方法。
  20. 【請求項２０】 複数の視聴チャンネルを定義し、 前記チャンネルのうちのいくつかで、テレビ番組を視聴用に提示し、 前記チャンネルのうちの少なくとも１つで、前記コピーされたビデオプログラ
    ムを視聴用に提示することを含むことを特徴とする請求項１８に記載の方法。
  21. 【請求項２１】 前記システムに関連付けられた電子プログラムガイドに、
    前記コピーされたビデオのリスト、ならびに前記コピーされたビデオを視聴する
    ことができる視聴チャンネルを表示することを含むことを特徴とする請求項１８
    に記載の方法。
