性に悪影響を及ぼす化学反応系接着剤や溶剤揮発系接着
剤の使用なしに行う。 【解決手段】 少なくとも一方に開放端を有するプラス
チックからなる円筒状の導電性基体の外周面に、感光層
を形成してなる電子写真感光体において、前記基体の少
なくとも一方の開放端部にプラスチックフランジを超音
波溶着することにより、両者の固着が強い電子写真感光
体を提供できる。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明は、少なくとも一方に
開放端を有するプラスチックからなる円筒状の導電性基
体の外周面に、感光層を形成してなる電子写真感光体に
関する。

【従来の技術】従来、電子写真感光体の基体としては、
比較的機械加工性のよい、少なくとも一方に開放端を有
する円筒状のアルミニウムが多用されてきた。この円筒
状基体の外周面に感光層を設けてなる電子写真感光体に
ギア付きのフランジを装着し、電子写真感光体に回転駆
動力を伝達する。近年、電子写真感光体は小型化、軽量
化が図られ、少なくとも一方に開放端を有するプラスチ
ックからなる円筒状の導電性基体とともに、容易に成形
できるプラスチックフランジが使用される。基体の開放
端部へのプラスチックフランジの装着は、接着剤による
固着が一般的である。接着剤としては、化学反応系、溶
剤揮発系のものが使用されている(特開平8−2272
50号公報参照)。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】前記のとおり、プラス
チックからなる円筒状の導電性基体とプラスチックフラ
ンジとの固着には、化学反応系接着剤や溶剤揮発系接着
剤が使用されるため、反応ガスの発生や溶剤の揮発が避
けられず、電子写真感光体の特性に悪影響を及ぼすこと
になる。反応ガスや揮発溶剤は、その異臭が作業者を悩
ませ、また、環境にも優しくない。そして、電子写真感
光体の開放端部に接着剤を均一に塗布するのに時間がか
かり、接着剤が電子写真感光体に垂れたり飛散したりす
る。さらに、接着剤が硬化して実用強度に達するには、
12〜48時間を要し、また、低温環境下では接着剤の
接着強度が常温時よりも2割程度落ちる。本発明は、こ
れらの問題点を解決しようとするものである。

【課題を解決するための手段】本発明は、少なくとも一
方に開放端を有するプラスチックからなる円筒状の導電
性基体の外周面に、感光層を形成してなる電子写真感光
体において、前記基体の少なくとも一方の開放端部にプ
ラスチックフランジを超音波溶着したことを特徴とする
電子写真感光体により前記課題を解決するものである。
溶着時間は、0.1〜1秒と、非常に短時間で済む。円
筒状の導電性基体の外周面に感光層を形成するのは、プ
ラスチックフランジを超音波溶着する前でもプラスチッ
クフランジを超音波溶着する後でも、いずれでもよい。
【0005】本発明で使用するプラスチックとしては、
射出成形可能な熱可塑性樹脂が好ましい。特に、ポリカ
ーボネート(PC)、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(P
ET)、ポリアミド(PA)、ポリメタクリル酸メチル
(PMMA)等が好ましい。円筒状基体の表面抵抗は、
106Ω/cm2以下が好ましい。円筒状基体とプラスチ
ックフランジは、同一のプラスチックであることが望ま
しいが、異種材質であっても溶着は可能である。例え
ば、PCとABS、PCとPMMA、PMMAとAS、
PMMAとABS等の組合せが可能である。
【0006】円筒状基体の開放端部に、その内径よりも
わずかに大きい外形寸法のプラスチックフランジを溶着
し、円筒状基体内径はプラスチックフランジ外径よりも
0〜100μm小さいものが好ましい。
【0007】超音波溶着機のホーンは縦振動で、ジュラ
ルミン系のものが使いやすく、発振周波数は15〜38
KHz、ホーン振幅は50〜100μmが好ましい。ま
た、超音波溶着ホーンの形状は、少なくともプラスチッ
クフランジの溶着部位円周上に接するようにドーナツ状
であることが好ましい。
【0008】超音波溶着の強度は、超音波振動の大き
さ、発振時間、加圧力等を溶着対象物の素材に応じて調
整することにより選択できる。
【0009】本発明においては、溶着部が基体のコーナ
ーとプラスチックフランジのテーパー面とからなるかあ
るいは基体のコーナーと三角リブとからなる電子写真感
光体が特に好ましい。以下、溶着部の形状について、図
1〜図3により詳細に説明する。図1及び図2はそれぞ
れ、プラスチックフランジの溶着部及び円筒状基体の溶
着部の例を示したものである。図1−1は、プラスチッ
クフランジで、溶着部は相手のプラスチック製円筒状基
体のコーナーと接する。円筒状基体の端部と接するフラ
ンジの面には、テーパー状のリブ2をつける。図1−2
は、同じくプラスチックフランジで、溶着部は相手のプ
ラスチック製円筒状基体のコーナーと接する。円筒状基
体の端部と接するフランジの面には、三角錐状又は頂点
欠如三角錐状のリブ(三角リブ3)をつける。これらの
図面には、独立したテーパーや三角錐を示したが、テー
パーや三角錐は独立せずに同心円状に連なっていてもよ
い。図2−1は円筒状基体で、コーナー5にインローを
つけてある。図2−2も円筒状基体であるが、インロー
をつけてない直角コーナー6をもつ。図3は、超音波溶
着の手順を示す。まずプラスチック製円筒状基体とプラ
スチックフランジとを同一直線状に配置する。プラスチ
ック製円筒状基体とプラスチックフランジとの嵌合寸法
は、φ30で0〜100μmが好ましい。超音波ホーン
は、円筒状基体の上に置いたプラスチックフランジの上
方から押し当てる。この加圧力は、150kgf以下、
好ましくは30〜70kgfにする。ピークパワーは、
2000ワット以下、好ましくは700ワット以下に
し、総エネルギー量は、1000ジュール以下、好まし
くは200ジュール以下にする。かくして、約0.15
秒で実用強度に達した電子写真感光体を得ることができ
る。

【実施例】φ30のPA製円筒状基体の外周面に感光層
を形成してなる電子写真感光体の開放端部に、同じくP
A製のフランジを載せ、超音波発振装置(超音波工業製
P1210)で押し付け溶着する。溶着条件は、ピーク
パワー613ワット、総エネルギー量68ジュール、加
圧力45kgf、周波数21KHz、発振時間0.15
秒である。実用強度に達した電子写真感光体を市販のX
erox社製Work Centreプロ657に搭載
し、連続印字試験を行った。A4連続10000枚印字
でも、フランジの脱落、ガタツキはなく、固着強度は十
分で、画像の不具合も発生しなかった。また低温環境下
でも、十分良好な印字画像が得られた。

【比較例】φ30のPA製円筒状基体の開放端部に、ポ
リアセタール製のフランジを載せ、接着剤(住友スリー
エム株式会社製DP−460オフホワイト)で押し付け
接着する。接着後24時間経過して10℃の低温環境下
で市販のXerox社製Work Centreプロ6
57に搭載し、連続印字試験を行った。連続印字試験を
行ったところ、基体とプラスチックフランジの固着が実
用強度に達しておらず、A4連続50枚印字でフランジ
の空回転が生じ画像の不具合で印字ムラが発生した。

【発明の効果】本発明によると、少なくとも一方に開放
端を有するプラスチックからなる円筒状の導電性基体の
少なくとも一方の開放端部にプラスチックフランジを超
音波溶着することで、0.1〜1秒の短時間溶着で実用
強度が得られ、低温環境下でも接着強度が落ちないとい
う優れた効果がもたらされる。

Claims (3)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】 少なくとも一方に開放端を有するプラス
    チックからなる円筒状の導電性基体の外周面に、感光層
    を形成してなる電子写真感光体において、前記基体の少
    なくとも一方の開放端部にプラスチックフランジを超音
    波溶着したことを特徴とする電子写真感光体。
  2. 【請求項2】 プラスチックフランジを超音波溶着する
    ために、少なくともプラスチックフランジの溶着部位円
    周上に接するようにドーナツ状の凸部を有する形状の超
    音波溶着ホーンを使用したことを特徴とする、請求項1
    に記載の電子写真感光体。
  3. 【請求項3】 溶着部が基体のコーナーとプラスチック
    フランジのテーパー面とからなるかあるいは基体のコー
    ナーと三角リブとからなる、請求項1又は2に記載の電
    子写真感光体。
