Description
The invention relates to a process for forming ornamental articles with a tubular structure in strips joined together without welding, with which to make earrings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches and similar articles.
Articles with tubular structure are widespread in the ornamental field. They, in some cases, appear as arched side-by-side stripes of a different color. They can be realized in different ways and techniques. One of these techniques, indicated in the Italian patent n. 1225783, provides for the formation of a bimetallic strip consisting of a first strip with an "L" -shaped profile of its cross section, combined with a second flat strip of a different color, such as to originate a rectangular composite strip, with one of its most wide of uniform color, the opposite one of two different colors, that is such as to appear as two side-by-side stripes. The composite strip is plated on an iron or copper strip, then arched, drawn and then the solid profile obtained is shaped until the desired ornamental article is obtained. Finally it is emptied of the internal core of non-precious metal so that its structure becomes tubular, therefore light. The articles thus produced appear to consist of tubular structures with two strips welded side by side.
Another procedure common in the goldsmith field involves the use of two tubular structures internally filled with resistant cores of non-precious metal to be removed by chemical corrosion after mechanical processing. The two structures have the profile of their semicircular cross-section, they are joined together in the flat surfaces to create an almost circular overall contour profile in the combination and then twisted so that each holds the other. The composite structure seen from the front therefore appears as the set of two adjacent arcuate strips twisted together. The realization of this combination is simple, but gives rise to a product that is rather heavy due to the two flat surfaces through which the two components adhere to each other. The above mentioned processes are the first to be rather complex and capable of originating relatively heavy tubular structures which may have straight or intertwined strips. The second is easy to make and gives rise to heavy structures, with only two colors and only with a twisted strip configuration.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a long-limbed structure with strips of different colors side by side, straight or twisted, two or more in number, with equal or different widths, through a simple and rapid mechanical processing, which allows the production of ornamental articles in multiple colors, light and inexpensive. The invention that allows these results to be obtained takes the form of a process that provides:
- l'utilizzo di un profilato di metallo non prezioso che sia soggetto a corrosione da parte di adatti acidi e che sia idoneo per essere utilizzato come anima resistente di strutture tubolari in metallo prezioso; - the use of a non-precious metal profile which is subject to corrosion by suitable acids and which is suitable for use as a resistant core of tubular structures in precious metal;
- la realizzazione di n scanalature longitudinali su detto profilato, dimensionate in modo adatto per ricevere ciascuna al suo interno i bordi laterali accoppiati delle lamine destinate a produrre la struttura tubolare a strisce; - the realization of n longitudinal grooves on said profile, suitably sized to each receive the coupled lateral edges of the laminae destined to produce the tubular strip structure;
- l'utilizzo di n lamine, con n numero intero maggiore o uguale a due, dimensionate in modo adatto per avvolgere il profilato e ciascuna con i bordi laterali sagomati in modo tale che le lamine contigue si congiungano e si aggancino fra loro; - the use of n sheets, with n integer greater than or equal to two, suitably sized to wrap the profile and each with the lateral edges shaped in such a way that the contiguous sheets join and hook together;
- una fase di trafilatura del profilato avvolto dalle n lamine mediante cui prima sono richiuse le scanalature longitudinali con i bordi agganciati delle lamine, poi il profilato avvolto è portato alla dimensione e forma volute; - una fase di torcitura del profilato composito trafilato, quando il prodotto deve apparire a strisce attorcigliate; - a step of drawing the section wrapped by the n sheets by means of which the longitudinal grooves with the hooked edges of the sheets are first closed, then the wound section is brought to the desired size and shape; - a twisting phase of the drawn composite profile, when the product must appear in twisted strips;
- una fase con cui il profilato composito è trasformato in monile; - a phase in which the composite profile is transformed into a jewel;
- una fase di svuotamento e rifinitura. - a phase of emptying and finishing.
The finished product is therefore advantageously constituted by n strips placed side by side, arranged parallel to the axis of the section itself or in the shape of a helix, without welds along the junction lines of the strips, however thin and therefore light.
The process in question therefore allows the difficulties encountered in products made with known processes to be overcome, it is simple to manufacture and therefore low cost, achievable with equipment of modest value and therefore such as to be used also by small laboratories for production of jewels with longitudinal or twisted strips of equal or different widths and of different colors. It is understood that the drawings are given solely by way of illustration of the object of the invention to facilitate understanding.
In them the support profile is indicated with 1, with 2 the longitudinal grooves in it, with 3 the shaped arcuate plates, whose edges are indicated respectively with 5 those shaped like a "V", with 6 those shaped like a fin. The invention in question therefore consists of a manufacturing process aimed at the production of light ornamental articles, with an external or contour surface consisting of n strips adjacent to each other, not welded to each other, arranged in a longitudinal direction or with helicoidal course, normally of different color between them to originate chromatic contrasts, without the inside of said structures having transversal surfaces which would make the jewels themselves heavy, with the same thickness of the contour surfaces. The process which allows these results to be achieved uses a support section 1 provided with n longitudinal grooves 2, with n integer greater than or equal to two. It also uses n plates 3, normally arched with edges 5 and 6 shaped so that those of adjacent plates are capable of coupling together. The plates are also sized to wrap around the contour of the section 1, when they are arranged side by side and with the side edges 5 and 6 coupled together. Plates 3 which can be the same or even different in width and structure as long as they are provided with lateral edges suitable for coupling two by two. From the combination of said profile 1 with the shaped plates 2 provided with edges 5 and 6 coupled together and positioned on the longitudinal grooves, composite profiles are obtained such as the one shown in figure 3. The grooves 2 are dimensioned in a suitable way to receive inside them the lateral edges 5 and 6 of the plates 3 with which the section 1 is combined. The latter, being an aid to the mechanical processing with which the jewels are made, is made of metal or metal alloy suitable for being chemically corroded at the end of processing. It can thus be made of iron, copper and other metals that can be easily dissolved with acids that do not attack the precious metal or metal alloy with which the cladding plates 3 are made. The n longitudinal grooves 2 on the support profile 1 have in any case the profile suitable for housing the coupled edges 5 and 6 of the contour plates 3 and normally their shape recalls that of a "V". The covering plates 3 can also be different from each other and in any case with shaped side edges to hook two by two. Said plates 3 normally have lateral edges shaped in such a way as to recall the shape of a "V" 5, and the shape of a fin 6, facing the axis of curvature of the covering plate 3 of which it is a part and in any case such shapes to allow the contiguous ones to hook together. The support section 1 and the contour plates 3 made of precious metal or metal alloy are then combined by linking the edges 5 and 6 of the adjacent plates within the longitudinal grooves 2 of the section 1. The combination thus created is subjected to plastic deformation by means of drawing and / or rolling operations in such a way that there is first the imprisonment of the linked edges in the metal of the profile 1 constituting the core of the combined unit, then the elongation of the composite profile which is drawn until it is brought to the desired size , usually with a circular or roundish section. The composite section thus obtained appears delimited by n adjacent longitudinal strips 3, of equal or even different widths, adhering to each other at the junctions but not welded. If required, said profile is subjected to a torsional stress with which to originate a long-limbed profile with helical side-by-side strips such as the one exemplified in figure 6. The composite profile is then mechanically processed up to the realization of the ornamental article, then emptied of the support core to bring it to the finite state.
