Abstract

1349809 Carrying liquefied gases BRIDGESTONE LIQUEFIED GAS CO Ltd 23 March 1972 [27 April 1971] 13692/72 Heading B7A [Also in Division F4] A tanker ship has a liquefied gas tank assembly 6 of a membrane type which includes an outer box 9 made of steel plate forming bottom 13 and side 14 wall portions and a rigid roof structure 15. A compression resistant heat insulating layer 12 is on the inside of the box and membranous vessel 7 is on the inside of the insulating layer. The steel plate is thick enough to keep the shape of the tank assembly when it is to be suspended by the rigid roof structure but not enough to resist an internal pressure exerted by loaded liquefied gases. The tank assembly is mounted in hold space 5 formed in the hull 1 of the ship in a manner such that the bottom and side wall portions of the box are directly supported by inner walls of the hull and such that the rigid roof structure forms a roof portion of the hull. In the embodiment shown the roof portion of the hull is a deck.
