Abstract

The pile (108) of a fabric (106) comprising a backing and thermally modifiable pile yarns is raised by directing a thin, elongated stream (110) of heated gas from a slot and into the pile while moving the fabric in a direction opposite to that in which the pile is inclined. As shown the angle between the direction of the stream (110) and the direction of movement is less than 90 DEG ; the angle may extend to as much as 90 DEG . The temperature and pressure of the heated stream are such that the pile is reoriented and heat set approximately perpendicular to the backing. <IMAGE> [GB2102462A]
