Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a smooth evaporation film free from projections, without scratching a surface, by pressing the surface of an evaporation film heated at a temperature higher than its glass transition point with a member having a smooth surface to bury projections in the film, after the film is formed by evaporation. CONSTITUTION:When an evaporation film 2 is formed on a support 1, projections 3 are formed on the surface of the film 2 due to bumping of an evaporation source, dust, volatile substances from the support 1, etc. The whole of the film 2 including such projections 3 is held at a temperature higher than the glass transition point of its material. Thereafter, a roll 4, whose surface is smoothly finished, being rotated along a direction shown as an arrow 5 is pressed onto the surface of the film 2. The pressurized rotation of the roll 4 on the whole of the film 2 is repeated until the projections 3 disappear.
