Abstract

999,271. Supply circuits for electrostatic precipitators. HONEYWELL Inc. Aug. 1, 1961 [Aug. 5, 1960], No. 27893/61. Heading H2H. The electrostatic filter of a gas-purifying system has an ionizing section 60 and a particlecollecting section 67 supplied with high voltage D.C. through a transformer 12, rectifiers 30, 32 and capacitors 34, 36, the ionizing electrodes 62 and collector plates 68 being connected by a current-limiting resistor 76 to reduce the possibility of arcing between the collector plates 68, 70. The resistor 76 is shunted by terminals 82, 84 spaced so that should arcing occur in the collector 67, the consequent increase of current through and potential across the resistor 76 causes voltage breakdown across the terminals 82, 84 which further increases the current taken from the lowvoltage supply terminals 22, 24 and produces a perceptible deflection of an ammeter 28 located remote from the filter and high voltage supply 10. To remove the collector 67 from a filter an access door 78 must be opened, which movement opens a mechanically interlocked switch 26 to break the power supply and also moves a mechanically coupled bar 86 to bridge the terminals 82, 84 and so earth the high voltage side of the ionizer 60, collector 67 and capacitors 34, 36. The ammeter 28 also indicates such faults as a shorted or open ionizer, a shorted or open rectifier or a shorted or open filter capacitor.
