Abstract

959,045. Electrostatic precipitators. APRA PRECIPITATOR CORPORATION. Oct. 16. 1961 [Nov. 7, 1960], No. 36988/61. Heading B2J. In an electrostatic precipitator comprising a bank of earthed collecting electrodes 10, which may be tubular, associated with ionizing electrodes 12 supplied with high voltage from a supply 15, each ionizing electrode 12 is connected to the high voltage lead-in 25 through a fuse 24, and a condenser 22 is connected in parallel with the supply 15 through an inductance 26 and a switch 20 whereby, in the event of arcing, or short circuit, of an electrode 12 to earth, the condenser may be switched in to discharge sufficient current through such electrode to blow its associated fuse 24 and permit normal working of the other units of the electrode bank. The arrangement shown is for use where arcing occurs at voltages below normal working voltage. For short circuit faults, the condenser is connected to the supply 15 by a solenoid operated switch which isolates the electrode bank from the supply and is operable, when the condenser is charged, to connect the condenser to the electrode lead-in to discharge through the short-circuited electrode and blow the associated fuse.
