Abstract

The surfaces of ferrous and non-ferrous metal objects are treated with a degreasing and cleaning composition consisting of an aqueous solution of a grease-dispersing organic non-ionic surface-active agent, such as a polyglycol ester, polyester amide of a fatty acid, fatty alcohol polyester, polyether alylamine/alkylphenol/polyhydroxyester, saponin or polyglycerine monoester, in the absence of any organic grease solvent or emulsion thereof or alkaline salt or inorganic water-softener, and then subjected without intermediate water rinsing to a descaling, phosphating, passivation, anodizing, painting or other surface-finishing treatment.
