Abstract
998, 343. Crimping fibres. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. June 24, 1964 [July 6,1963], No. 26858/63. Heading D1F. In a stuffer-box crimper comprising a pair of nip rolls delivering tow, sliver, or yarn into the compression chamber and two bearing members e.g. discs, each one in contact (at the location of the nip of the rolls and on opposing sides thereof) with at least the outer annular portion of the sides of both rolls, the bearing members are each provided with means adapted continuously to cool them e.g. each member (or a backing member therefor) may be an intrinsic part of a circulation system for a coolant such as water. In the apparatus shown, bearing discs 11,13, are held in contact with the sides of nip rolls 15, 17, by a "gate" formed by arm 1 pivotally mounted at 3, and detachably secured by pivotable bolt 7 and nut 9, to the frame 5 of a crimper head, the contact pressure being adjusted by a screw 19 engaging backing disc 21. Water circulates through, and around annular spaces 35, 37, in both backing discs 21 and 23, entering and leaving by pipes 27, 29,and 31, 33.
