Abstract

998,326. Drying webs. C. A. METER - WINDHORST. July 6, 1962 [July 6, 1961], No. 26124/62. Heading F4G. A process of drying impregnated webs after passing through a dye-bath and dewatered by squeezing is firstly exposed to a moistly-warm atmosphere with or without a slight drying effect, then relatively slowly dried in a compartment until the moisture content in the web reaches a predetermined amount and is finally relatively quickly dried to remove the remaining moisture. A web of material after dyeing and dewatering by squeezing rolls passes successively through upper and lower treatment chambers 11, 12 in a drier 10 on a slat conveyer 13 to festoon the material before passing to apparatus (not shown) for final drying at a rapid rate. The atmosphere in chamber 11 is rendered warm and humid, if necessary by spraying water or saturated steam thereinto, the material. passing through in 1 to 3 minutes. The chamber 12 is heated to 60‹ to 90‹ C. by heated air introduced through blowers 18 with additional moisture being sprayed into the chamber through staggered nozzles (not shown), the material passing through the chamber 12 in several runs.
