As a truck b is pushed from a mine cage 3 a truck stop 6, 7, 8, is moved in the same direction as the truck at a lower speed so that the truck gently contacts the stop and is retarded gradually. A pusher 2 pushes a car a into the cage and the car b out at the other side with the truck stop in position A. When an axle 13 of the truck b approaches catch hook 7 a motor 10, automatically controlled by a switch 15, drives the truck stop in the same direction as the truck b is moving. The truck b runs over the hook 8 and catches up with and accelerates the hook 7. This operates an under voltage relay 16 which reverses the motor 10 and slows down and stops the trucks at the position shown. The pusher 2 is next returned to its original position and the motor 10 is restarted by a time relay 19, thus accelerating the truck b through a distance Y away from the cage. The hook 7 moves downwards along a curved path 12 to permit the truck to continue its motion. Finally, the motor 10 is again reversed to return the truck stop to the position A. To speed up operation a wheel-stop 20 may be provided in the cage and in this case the truck b need not be completely stopped, the motor 10 merely being reversed to slow down the truck and then operated in the original direction to move it away.
