Toy vehicles guided on a trackway by a depending finger in a through slot in the trackway may be switched to a different lane at a trackway lane change arrangement that comprises a through slot and lane change slot that communicates with the through slot and adapted to be engaged by the depending finger for directing the finger to the lane change slot when the vehicle approaches at a slow speed and permitting finger to continue in the through slot when vehicle approaches at a higher speed. Such movements may be performed in a lane change arrangement as shown in Figure 2. As the vehicle travels along with the depending finger in slot 17, it approaches the lane change entry point at a controlled speed. As the finger 21 strikes the arcuately shaped deflector 28, the finger will be forced toward lane change slot 24 and at a slow speed the vehicle will enter slot 24. At higher speeds, the vehicle will strike deflector 28 out of its deflecting position and due to the inertia of the vehicle of the higher speed, it will continue in a straight line in slot 17. An alternative embodiment devoid of moving parts, is shown in Figure 6 and Figure 7, the latter being a sectional view taken along line 7-7 of Figure 6. When the vehicle moves along slot 42 at a slow speed, finger 21 rises up the ramp 46 and descends the other side thus engaging the leading edge 48 of the second ramp hence guiding the vehicle along the slot 43. At a higher speed, however, the finger 21 will again rise up the ramp 46, but if the speed is high enough, the finger will remain raised for a sufficient time to permit it to clear the edge 48. Thus the vehicle will continue in a straight line along slot 42.
