Abstract

1371710 Lifts ANGLO AMERICAN CORP OF SOUTH AFRICA Ltd 6 Sept 1972 [9 Sept 1971 26 Oct 1971] 41379/72 Heading B8L A hoisting system includes a device for holding a cage 10 during loading or unloading at a station in a shaft, which device comprises a pair of opposed jaws 17, 18 mounted in a track 14 at each side of the shaft, for engaging a projection 24 on each side of the cage 10, the jaws being movable along straight track portions 15 whilst still in the line of travel of the projections 24 and into recessed track portions 16 out of the said line of travel. Each pair of jaws 17, 18 are driven by a common chain and sprocket system. In operation, as a cage is stopped at a station, the jaws close to lock the projections 24, and as the cage is loaded or unloaded the cage supporting cable tends to stretch or retract, which movement is permitted in a controlled manner as the jaws 17 and 18 are driven along the straight track position 15 to open the jaws, when the cage is to leave the station.
