Abstract
997,613. Evaporators ; constant-level device. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Sept. 23, 1963 [Sept. 21, 1962], No. 37417/63. Heading B1B. A constant-level of liquid is maintained in evaporation-dish C 1 by a closed liquid-supply tank R 1 from which the liquid flows into the dish through a downwardly-inclined duct D 1 which is joined to the bottom of the tank and which dips into the dish C 1 at the required constant level. The tank is provided with an air-supply tube T 1 which is open to the atmosphere at the upper end and which terminates at the lower end in a capillary orifice 3 close to the mouth of the inclined duct. The dish C 1 is heated electrically by coil 17 which is automatically switched off, when tank R 1 becomes empty, by means of mercury pressure-gauge 9 which has two branches 10, 11. The wider branch 10 is connected by tube 14 to the inside of the tank, while the other branch 11 is open to the atmosphere. Platinum wires 12, 13 extend into branches 10, 11 respectively ; and the two wires are connected to relay 15 which acts, via switch 16, to interrupt the current to heating- coil 17 when both platinum wires are in contact with the mercury in gauge 9. When the evaporator is in operation, wire 13 is not in contact with the mercury and the heating circuit 17 is closed.
