Abstract

915,095. Air humidifiers. WALTHER, O. March 30, 1960, No. 11241/60. Class 55 (2). An air humidifier (Fig. 1) comprises a tank 1 containing water and a cylindrical wick 22 dipping into the water and folded at its upper end over the top surface of an electrically heated element 4, the element 4 when heated serving to evaporate water from the wick into the surrounding atmosphere. Electric cable to the heating element 4 passes through a tube 7 which is screwed into a short cylindrical member 5 welded or otherwise secured at its lower end to the heating element 4, the tube 7 together with a tube 6 also screwed into the member 5 serving to support the element 4 and the wick 22 within the tank 1. An electrical cut-out 16 switches off the heating element of the temperature within the humidifier rises above a predetermined level. The wick 22 may be of glass microfibre and be covered at least on one side with a water-permeable, water-resistant incombustible material such as asbestos fibre fabric. Alternatively the wick may be covered on one side only with a light metal covering. Holes 29 are provided in the wick adjacent the heating element 4. In a modification (Fig. 3) an electric heating coil is disposed within a tube 36 and a wick 38 wrapped round the tube 36 at its upper end dips into water contained in a trough 39.
