Abstract

1223165 Thermal switches S STAUBER 29 July 1968 [28 July 1967] 36109/68 Heading F4 AN2A A safety-switch 9, Fig. 1, is mounted on a tubular heater 2 as in Specification 1183911 (see Division H5H) having a tube 1 through which fluid passes to be heated and is operated through expansion of the tube 1 to cut off the electricity supply should the tube 1 become overheated due to its boiling dry. The tube 1 is fixedly mounted at its lower end in block 6 and carries a clamp 7 for a spring strip switch support 8 and a clamp 3 at its top end for an electrical conductor bar and actuator 4 coupled to the support 8 through a spring-loaded adjusting nut 11. The switch 9 comprises a mercury globule in a sealed tube engageable with a contact 12 having a flexible connection 13 to the bar 4. A manual actuator 20 may be provided. The heating tube 1 may comprise a glass tube covered by a wound wire heating coil 2 or a sheath of resistive heating material. In a modification the tube may be made entirely of a resistive heating material and the switch may be a micro-switch at the upper or lower end of the tube.
