Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a length of time required for the restart of a lamp after it is turned off, by providing a thermally operated switch which works not for a temperature rise in the whole body but for only when partially heated. CONSTITUTION:A thermally operated switch 14 is constituted by the first thermally operated element 16, the second thermally operated element 17, bimetal contact 19, contact bar 20 and lead wire 21. A heater 15 being set in the vicinity of the second thermally operated element 17 gives only a few amount of heat to the first thermally operated element 16. In lighting operation, electric conduction of the heater 15 causes the second thermally operated element 17 to raise its temperature with the contact 19 as left in an open state. And if a luminous tube 1 is turned off, the both thermally operated elements are at equal temperature to close the contact 19 then an electric current flows in the heater 15, filament 5 and thermally operated switch 14. Then the heating of the heater 15 causes the thermally operated switch 14 to open again, thus voltage is applied to across the main electrodes 2, 3 with the filament 5 in a red-heat state.
