Abstract
867,443. Electrolytic apparatus. EVANS (RESEARCH) Ltd., DAVID J. Sept. 14,1959 [Sept. 15, 1958], No. 29458/58. Class 41. An electrolytic cell comprises at least two coaxial tubes made of titanium, means for supplying cooling water through the inner tube, means for supplying electrolyte to a narrow annular space between two of the tubes, at least one of these two tubes being coated with platinum on the surface contacting the electrolyte, and means for connecting said two tubes to a supply of electric current. As shown, two tubes 10, 11 are held in insulating blocks 12, 13; at least the inner surface of the outer tube which forms the anode is coated with platinum. About one-tenth of the water entering at 16 is diverted via outlet 19 to a solution-forming apparatus (not shown) from which a solution.of electrolyte is returned to inlet 20, whence it flows up the annular space between the tubes. The remainder of the water supply flows up inside the inner tube, thus cooling it. The two streams are re-combined at the top and leave the apparatus at 18. Electrical connection is made to the tubes at 27 and 32.. Specification 820,275 is referred to.
