Abstract

997, 154. Head boxes for paper-making machines. VALMET OY. March 12, 1964 [Oct. 22,1963], No. 10417/64. Heading D2A. The front wall of a paper machine headbox comprises an upper beam 1 securely fixed to the side walls 5 of the headbox and a lower beam 2 separate from but mounted beneath the beam 1 and supported from horizontal adjustment in guide members situated at its ends. The lower beam is supported against horizontal deflection due to the pressure in the headbox at two or more points and is connected to the top beam by at least one supporting arm which is located so that at least one of the support points lies between the ends of the beam. The arrangement is designed to minimise bending and deflection of the beam. In a preferred arrangement the lower beam is supported by two arms 3 each located at about two-ninths of the length of the beam from its ends. The upper lip structure 8 of the machine slice is mounted for vertical adjustment on the beam 2. Horizontal adjustment of the lip structure 8 is achieved by transfer mechanisms 4 mounted on the arms 3 and interconnected for concurrent action by a shaft 7.
