Abstract

1,212,868. Papermaking. BELOIT CORP. 30 Nov., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No. 54512/67. Heading D2A. In a papermaking machine comprising a breast roll (12), a Fourdrinier wire (13) turning about the breast roll, and a headbox (11), the slice comprises a body (19), a roof (20) adjustably mounted (e.g. pivoted) on the body, and a lip (21) with a tip (23) and adjustably mounted (e.g. pivoted) on the roof. The tip is supported in a fixed relation to the breast roll regardless of upward deflection of the roof by a support beam (27), means which suspend the lip from the beam but are adjustable for crossdeflection of the beam, and means for adjusting the beam up and down. As shown, the roof 20 is moved by a screw jack 32 mounted on a beam 33. An air cushion 43 takes up any slack. The slice lip is suspended from the beam 27 on adjustment studs 101. The beam in turn is supported on nose blocks 106 rockably supported on bearing blocks 107, one at each end of the breast roll. Each nose block is secured .to a support leg 110 slidable within the beam 27, and supporting a plate 111 having jacks 112 to support the ends of the beam. The beam is also suspended by rods 128 by means of jacks 129 from a cross beam structure 127, to raise the beam during wire changes.
