Abstract

A composition suitable for use in the creaseproofing of cellulosic fabrics comprises one or more compounds selected from urea-formaldehyde precondensate, melamine-formaldehyde precondensate, a triazine precondensate, dimethylol ethylene urea precondensate and a triazone-precondensate, dissolved in a solution comprising a major proportion by weight of a water-miscible aliphatic ketone, e.g. acetone or methyl ethyl ketone, dioxane or acetic anhydride and a minor proportion by weight of a potentially acid catalyst, e.g. diammonium hydrogen phosphate, dibasic ammonium phosphate, zinc nitrate, magnesium chloride, amino propanol hydrochloride and ethanolamine hydrochloride, and water. The compounds may be insolubilized on the fabric by drying and heating. Mixtures or co-condensates of the aminoplasts may be used.ALSO:Cellulosic fabrics, except cellulose acetate fabrics, are creaseproofed by impregnating them with one or more compounds selected from urea-formaldehyde precondensates, melamine-formaldehyde precondensates, a triazine precondensate, dimethylol ethylene urea precondensate formaldehyde and a triazone precondensate, dissolved in a solution comprising a major proportion by weight of a water mixible aliphatic ketone, e.g. acetone or methyl ethyl ketone, dioxane or acetic anhydride and a minor proportion by weight of a potentially acid catalyst, e.g. diammonium hydrogen phosphate, dibasic ammonium phosphate, zinc nitrate, magnesium chloride, amino-propanol hydrochloride and ethanolamine hydrochloride, and water and subsequently insolubilizing the compounds in situ preferably by drying and curing by heating the fabrics may be pretreated with sodium borohydride and after treated with caustic soda with or without framing to produce a plisse or puckered appearance. Woven, knitted or otherwise produced fabrics made from cotton, regenerated cellulose or linen may be treated.
